Which explains why the Kanji for 4, 四 has two sounds. し/よん(shi/yon).

Is onyomi and kunyomi used for all the vocabulary? Or just the kanji?

"deguchi" or exit is using the kun reading, NOT the on reading.

I have a question 👋 can u plz answer me - if we want to write our name in Japanese can we use hiragana Kanji and Katakana both or not ?

Yiu can use all of them :) Im new to learning japanese but there is this kanji reading called nanori which is used almost exclusively for names.. 紫 (murasaki) as a word means purple but in name format it can be read as something like yukari. I hope that helps

can someone explain to me what is a compoud kanji? I’m understanding these videos fine but the whole compound thing is confusing me. Edit: I figured it out and if anyone else doesnt understand it’s for compound words so in english 2 words that make up another word. Water in kun’yomi is 水 (mizu) and in on’yomi it’s said ‘sui’. So water on it’s own would be said mizu but a word like water fountain would be like 噴水 (funsui)

Imagine if a word of three or four kanji is all kun'yomi, that would be an absolute mouthful.
