Learn Kanji with Anime | 心 (heart, mind)

Kanji Anime is a new series where you can learn Japanese kanji with characters. Today let’s learn the kanji 心 (“heart, mind”) and other 5 ones that have 心 in them. Make sure to check the stroke orders of each kanji as well in the late of this video!

心 (heart, mind)
*Kunyomi: こころ
*Onyomi : シン ex. 心臓 (しんぞう): heart (organ)
* What's Kunyomi and Onyomi?
Kunyomi (訓読み) and Onyomi (音読み) mean a way of reading kanji. Kunyomi is the Japanese pronunciation of a kanji whereas Onyomi is a pronunciation derived from Chinese (where kanji originated). Although there are many exceptions, typically a kanji is read in Kunyomi pronunciation when it appears as a single kanji while the Onyomi pronounciation is used when the kanji appears with other multiple kanji.

愛 (あい): love
悲しい (かなしい): sad
怒る (おこる): to get angry, to get mad
忙しい (いそがしい): busy *心 becomes忄 when it comes on the left side of kanji
忘れる (わすれる): to forget

「心」 was one of the first kanji i've ever "learned" but i didnt know it also meant mind. I love your videos, tanakasan! They really help me learn japanese ^^

Yeah, it is said that the reason why heart and mind are the same word is that it is believed that the beating of the heart is caused by mental action.

where is kokoro - it is on the left-hand side of the character. The right-hand side character expresses a meaning called "lose" or "die". I am so busy that Heart is lost.

I compared the Kanji 心("kokoro", heart) with a real heart and they do look similar. The Kanji for heart also refers to the mind because it was once believed that the beating of the heart is caused by human mental action.

[ 忙しい ] これに使われている左側の文字を立心偏(りっしんべん)と言い心を表しています。快い(こころよいｰ気分がいい) 怪しい (あやしいｰうたがわしい、信用できない) これらの漢字も立心偏(りっしんべん)が使われています

okay... this is going to sound totally from left field but learning that the character for heart and mind are the same really clears up a strange plot point in the game "mad rat dead", where the mind and soul of another creature occupies the titular character due to a heart transplant. kinda makes me wonder if this is the first time this sort of narrative was done.
