I'm from Dublin and I remember in the late 50ts the masses went to the Isle of Man thats all they could afford on holiday same for the Liverpool people,, many would end up married and live in Liverpool ,, I lived in London from 1969 -2006 and as a Liverpool football fan Iv been at the matches for years if im in a pub in liverpool they dont even hear my assent,, but if someone walked in from south of Birmingham they would be more like outsiders .. Dublin is a twin city to Liverpool they have much in common, same sense of humour the love of music and storys..

@Bollox Have you ever researched the history of Liverpool? How Celtic fc and Liverpool fc are so close? Ever thought about why the scouse accent is so different to the rest of Britain yet its closest port to Dublin? Ever heard about the dismantling of Liverpools economy by English powers in London which caused its poverty, and how the people of Liverpool identified closer to Irish and many said "we are not english, we are scouse". Ever thought where most of its famous names like Jamie Carragher, Steve McManaman, Wayne Rooney, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Cilla Black, John Bishop and Paul O’Grady come from? you fool

If you ever read a history book you might realize the English people as a whole were shafted by Lords for hundreds of years, and it wasnt just the Liverpool population who despised the ruling elite in London. When I mentioned those few people I was referring to their clearly Irish heritage, the same way half of your football team could play for Ireland. We have for a lot longer time been a predominantly protestant city. Liverpool was a tory city also. Both football clubs where started from the same protestant background. Both started by protestant orange men. My point is when people say about an Irish city they only go on about the Catholic Irish and not the unionist Irish. There are orange lodges in Liverpool over 200 years old
