It's weird As Serb living in Australia but being born in Serbia we always drank Camilica and shipak tea like non stop but I agree its not standard practice in more metro areas of Serbia but in towns and villages tea is apart of the culture but less so then other countries.

Transport is not good and he is right about banks and apps. And we all hate our bureaucracy!

Also we in Serbia do have bank applications and other digital transaction help. One of our banks support NFC payment with Garmin smart watches so there you are. You have to be Serbian citizen to obtain access to these apps, but they do exist and only old generation dont use them. On the other hand he is right about the administration hurdle. If you loose your card or it simply expired you have to go to the bank in person, sign bunch of papers etc. This has to do with security level of banking but it should be understandable as Serbia is unregulated digitally compared to the west so frauds (digital) are way more common and easier to achieve here. Banks are aware of this and they are imposing on us this administration obstacle to protect themselves but also us as customers form the attackers.

Just a small correction. Serbia was under Ottoman rule less than 400 years.... Turks invaded in the late 1400 and were gone by the late 1800.

Only parts of Southern Serbia were under Ottoman rule close to 500 years, North less that 200 years I would say and most of Serbia was around 350 years under Ottoman rule. This is exactly the reason why we are lagging behind the West. Before Ottoman rule Serbia was not poor at all, we had many mines and a good trade.

I don't know if every Russian thinks like him, but some things he described are just like Americans, for example the way they drink coffee. You are right, Serbs are similar to Greeks and Italians in many aspects, that's why we are "South" Slavs.

I am Serbian and I couldn't agree more. When I was in Moscow I was constantly asking myself why the fuck do people sometimes call Serbs and Russians "brothers" when we are very different, especially in our approach to life. Here it's more of a mix of Turkish-South Europe influences, I experienced Greeks much more simular to us when I was there. The main differences also are that Internet here is not censored like in Russia nor it would ever be possible to do so, there would be massive protests right away lol. The church, muuch different, even though we're both orthodox I was asked by a civil guard (!) in Moscow to button my shirt to the neck before entering a church, and I just couldn't believe it, it was so shocking. Here I could go to a liturgy in a mini skirt and heels and nobody would care, maybe just a few old ladies would give me an evil eye. Same sex partnerships are lawful here, our last prime minister was openly gay and had a child with her partner during her mandate. It's true English is spoken everywhere to some extent, in Russia after so many attempts I just switched to Serbian and had much more success that way :) My joie de vivre was almost frowned upon in Moscow, found it quite strange. That one I contribute to the weather though, the same happened to me in Scandinavia for example, only people there were more indifferent and in Russia it felt a bit more antagonistic. Now having said all that, when you take away geographical and political differences, I do feel there is this thing called "slavic soul" underneath. Long ago, Slavic tribe seggregated into eastern (Russians, Ukrainians and Belarus), western (Poles, Checzs and Slovacs) and southern group (Serbs, Croats, Montenegrins, Bulgarians, North Macedonians and Slovenians). That's where "yugo" comes from (in this last group, jug = south). Wherever I am in these 12 countries now, I get a panslavic feeling of comfort that is hard for me to explain (and we can understand each other 30 to 100%, how cool is that :) And amongst them, Russia has made by far the biggest and greatest artistic and cultural world legacy, that just leaves me in awe. Man I could just sit in that Moscow metro a whole day and get chills, that's how beautiful it is. Btw are you American? Is it true what some of my American aquantances told me, that you don't read Russian literature in schools? They didn't even know who Dostoievsky was...If that's the case it's really sad and you're missing A LOT. @Russian with Max There is a law, smoking is not allowed anywhere indoors, it's just hard to implement it because Serbs are just such damn heavy smokers (and as a non-smoker I feel your pain). I believe it to be a remnant of Otoman times but it is slowly improving. They have made a compromise with cafes, allowing them to have completely separate parts for smokers, but since 80% of them would have to close because they are too small for that, now we're stuck in a situation where you have 4 tables side by side and 2 are non- and the other 2 are smoking and it's being tolerated for a social peace's sake. I also think that tobacco serves the similar purpose to alcohol in Russia, it's a stress reliever more than a pleasure, maybe if they banned it completely you would see many more drunks on the streets...I just go to the completely non-smoking ones, there are plenty of them and that's my recommendation to you, too. Also, thank you for mentioning that we welcome everyone here, it's so sweet of you. Being surrounded by NATO countries it is hard, but I hope we'll be able to manage it, I would be happiest to ultimately see Serbia military neutral similar to Switzerland. There are priviledges to it as well I have to say, Serbian is one of the only three passports in the world that doesn't need visa for China, Russia and European Union. @@MacakPodSIjemom yes, we get to hear English from a very early age but then, we also learn languages starting with elementary school. It is always English and another major language (Russian, French, German).

As a Serb from Belgrade, it is unbelievable how well young people speak English today, their vocabulary, theri grammar, very impressive. This is all mostly due to non-stop watching videos on the internet.

Petokolonas ti je brat? Tebra nauci ruski, da bi razumeo o čemu priča. Čovek se za 4 meseca nije snašo I nije shvatio da je u inostranstvu. Pijoglavi još nije shvatio da u svakom gradu postoji autobuska stanica gde moze da kupi kartu i putuje na udobnom autobusu po zemlji i inostranstvu. On pokazuje gradske autobuse GSP i u tripu je da sa takvim busevima putujemo po zemlji. Ja sam bio u Rusiji i tamo je nemoguće tako lako da se nađe bus za drugi grad, a transport im je star oko 30 godina u proseku, uglavnom minibusevi, putevi su im katastrofa...Oni uglavnom putuju vozom, a to je i razumljivo s obzirom na udaljenosti gradova. Kaže da nemoze lako da se nađe kafa za poneti. Kako nema kineskog čaja, ma da samo smo njega čekali da dođe, da bi počeli iz kine specijalno za njega da ga uvozimo. I tako dalje. Uči ruski, kako nebi živeo u zabludi.

Šumadijski čaj? Ovo nije iznenađenje za mene, jer znam, da u Slovačkoj možete da kupite tradicionalno piće, koje ima naziv "tatranský čaj". I naravno, ovo nije čaj, ali vrsta slovačkog rakije, koje se pravi od čaja. Već sam isprobao i moram da rečim da to ima odličen ukus, posebno u toplom čaju tokom zime. Pozdrav iz Češkoj, volimo vašu državu, za mnoge Čehe ste uvek braća! Samo iz radoznalosti, koja bezalkoholna pića se u Srbije pije najčešće tokom leta?

@@RichieLarpa leti se najviše pije "kisela voda", gazirana voda, ubedljivo najprodavanije piće je "knjaz Miloš" kisela voda. Piju se razni sokovi, gazirani i negazirani, koka kola... Tradicionalno letnje piće je Boza, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boza ali se sada retko pije, tržište su uglavnom preuzeli gazirani sokovi, koka kola, Fanta i slično. U Srbiji imamo dosta dobre domaće negazirane voćne sokove

I am more inclined to think that the buses don't have proper shock absorbers. I live in the States and it is the same problem. The buses are newer and in better condition than in Serbia, the roads are (mostly) good but riding in them can literally harm your spine.

To sto se modernizuje trasa Bg Ns pa i do Subotice ne znaci nista kad je ostatak Srbije bukvalno zatvoren. Vozovi su bili tolko neprakticni da su ljudi sami prestali vecinski da koriste i mahom je ostala ta trasa Ns Bg najverovatnije zbog toga sto je bila najlaksa za odrzavanje. Istocna Srbija je skroz zatvorena npr. Zapad prakticno isto.

Jedini razlog zasto funkcionise BG-NS je kratka daljina i sto je cena do skoro bila mnogo manja nego bus. Ta "barska" pruga je tek posebna prica. Taj voz kao da putuje kroz prostor i vreme do svog cilja. Jednostavno zeleznice su jos 80ih postale nepozudane nema to veze sa bombardovanjem nego sa ne ulaganjem, ali se 80ih jos drzalo nekako. 90ih opstalo zbog cene, ali vec posle sankcija fakticki se urusilo. Sve je to produkt nemara drzave i lopovluka. Nije ta firma jedini primer imao ih milion. Poslednja je RTB Bor i Majdanpek. Izgradili pola Jugoslavije, ali bratija krala nenormalno, a nesposobna za rukovodjenje i onda sta se desilo? Prodali naravno. Svoje parce strpali u dzep. Kupac se bogati, a zemlja propada. Kinezi ce da razruse pola Istocne Srbije jer im se moze. Narod ima dve opcije. Da cuti i gleda ili da uzme motku u ruke i da pocne "seca knezova" samo umesto Turaka ovoga puta Srbi da seku svoje "knezove". Nazalost, ako se realno sagleda slika, nama kao zemlji drugog leka nema od potpunog reseta koji zahteva da se brutalno raskrsti sa sadasnjim rezimima. Sve i da sutra udjemo u EU to ce biti samo produzena agonije jer ce upumpati pare koje ce samo na kratko odloziti "pucanje balona". Nama treba sistem a ne pare

Opening an account in Serbia and/or doing pretty much anything is a clusterfuck even if you are citizen like myself. I realized that when I came back and spent an entire fucking day at an Intesa bank. I think this corrupt government is still holding on to all the regulation that that asshole Mladjan Dinkic introduced when he was in charge.

For money transfer without paying taxes or any fee I'm using the app for betting. As you noticed but there's a lot of gambling places all over the country and if someone wants to send me the money from another city, he just go to the gambling place where I can do it (bcs some of them have noticed that and they made some restrictions but there's still some that doesn't have any restrictions), he goes inside and makes deposit into the my account and then I can withdraw, the money is available the same second when he makes deposit. I use it from one part of the city, just I don't need to go far away to collect my money. Even Bosnia, Montenegro and Serbia are networked so we can avoid international taxes and fees. That's called creativity 🤣

Actually no, I'm serían resident and opening an account was a nightmare, i spent easyly over one hour signing my name, i went crazy, the card had to be picked up at the bank, and yet another ordeal with that business, total he'll, not to mention that international transfer is impossible

Транспорт в России это совершенно другой уровень. Дело даже не в Москве, даже в маленьких городах он часто очень хорошо организован. Правда эт может для нас города в 100-200тыс человек населением маленькие, как для Сеибии - не знаю. Ну и конечно с поправками на работу других служб - если зимой дороги чистят плохо, то появляются проблемы, и это касается Москвы и Санкт-Петербурга тоже.

They started to build the first line, two are planed to be finished until the '28 with addition of the BG Voz (Belgrade Train) there will be 3 lines in the 6 years. After that I do believe that will expand. Next, Belgrade - Novi Sad line is finished, that will be the part of the Belgrade - Budapest completely new line and after that the builds will go to the south towards the Tesaloniki, but North Macedonia needs to do their part and Greeks will do their because its short. All of that is part of the Chinese silk road, China is the owner of the both biggest ports in the Greece, Athens and Tesaloniki and for starters they will connect Tesaloniki but I believe that they will build Athens - Tesaloniki line as well, so it's in their interest to have fast and reliable transportation from their ports to the Europe. Not to mention that China is planning to build in Serbia big regional storage facility from where they can ship anything, basically that's the plan. Regarding transportation the trains worked well until 1999 when the tracks were bombed in several locations, the country was under sanctions and the trains and tracks were practically abandoned and buses were used more. But that is slowly changing now, the Belgrade - Novi Sad railway has been renovated and modernized, and the speed has been increased from the previous 50 km/h to 200 km/h, and new Swiss Stadler Kiss double deckers and Stadler flirt trains were purchased and more is being planned. The Belgrade Novi Sad railway is part of the modernization of the railway which connects four of Serbia's largest cities, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Subotica, and connects Serbia with Hungary and Greece. The railway line Novi Sad - Subotica is in the process of renovation and modernization right now, and some parts towards Niš have started with renovation. Belgrade does not have a metro, even though it was planned decades ago, something would always get in the way of implementation, but the metro finally started construction this year and the first two lines are planned to be ready by 2028 (first) and 2030 (second). Belgrade has a kind of semi-metro "Beo Voz" (commuter rail) that connects the suburbs with downtown Belgrade, modernization and 4 new lines are planned. Buses work well throughout the country, they are well connected and there are all kinds of them, both old and new, and Belgrade and Novi Sad also have electric ones but the buses that go from one city to another city are much more modern than those that go only inside the city. The new main bus and train stations are under construction, so until they are finished, they contribute a lot to the chaos in transport. Belgrade also has trams and trolleybuses and there are plans to buy new ones as well as build and extend new tram lines. Trams also existed in Novi Sad, Subotica, Niš and some other cities, but the government in the former Yugoslavia removed them for unknown reasons.
