I will teach you the correct way to use Tú or Usted in Spanish. Tú is used to speak in a casual way, whereas Usted is used in a formal environment. Spanish speakers use either Tú or Usted in everyday life. That is why I want you to learn the difference between these Spanish subject pronouns so you won't make any mistakes again, never again. With this lesson you will speak like a native Spanish speaker. You will be so fluent in Spanish that you will pass as a Mexican. Wake up! and speak Spanish ahora. Learn Spanish rápido y fácil with BUTTERFLY SPANISH, and start flying now.

Hello, a Spaniard here. I’m sad to say it’s even more complicated than that. In Spain I would never use the formal speech to address my grandparents. They are as close as they can be being family and, as such, it “wins” over them being older. So, closeness wins over age. I visited a friend in Costa Rica and they use the polite speech in very casual settings, they just use it as a way of speaking, they never used the informal, which was shocking to me. I felt weird speaking informal because nobody was doing it. Basically you have to learn the local culture and see how it’s used there. PS. In European Spanish there is an informal plural second person conjugation: vosotros. Being “ustedes” the formal one.
@MaiPengWen
@MaiPengWen Жыл бұрын
So ustedes is used in Spain for formal “you all” contexts? I thought Spain used vosotros and everyone else used ustedes, and there wasn’t a formality level for second person plural.
@beltrangarrote1982
@beltrangarrote1982 Жыл бұрын
@@MaiPengWen - Tú = informal you - Usted = formal you - Vosotros = informal you all - Ustedes = formal you all In Spain we use it as is. In Latin America they only use the formal speech in both settings. It a purer form since old Spanish from the Discovery of America was like that. European Spanish became more casual while Latin American did not.

I used to teach Spanish to foreign students in my country and now Im getting ready for becoming a Spanish teacher in U.S and this video is giving me lots of ideas. Great resource!!! The big challenge about teaching Spanish in a country where the English is the firs language, is the practice. If you learn but do not speak it, you are going to lose it. Keep practicing, listen music, watch this kind of videos, movies in Spanish and write in Spanish (technology is a great tool) . We can give you rules and examples but outside of the classroom, you are the one to decide if this is only a class or a tool that you will seize and use for the rest of your life.

@stephanyrodriguez9560
@stephanyrodriguez9560 7 жыл бұрын

Now this "rule" can break if you both have enough trust to adress yourselves as "tú" which, as you could see on the video, is used to closer, friendly, trustful, same/younger/a few older people... this is also acceptable. Ex: a student adressing by "tú" to his teacher bc has enough trust with him, the same with a kid adressing as "tú" to her aunt or the guy's girlfriend adressing as "you" to his mother. For instance, in your case, the logic would be: if your employee/teacher is your same age or is in your range of age, you can easily adress as "tú". If he is too older than you let's adress him better as "usted". But above of these things is more the perception you have on this person, is kind of difficult to explain a personal logic of adressing people because it may vary on cultural, social, personal things... it is a subjective way to treat people, but with more practice you will find easier, hope I could help you. P.S.: once you get it you will find some cases where people applies these "rules" on reverse to what you are learning but again it's a matter of perception, don't worry about it, these are uncommon situations.

- Your friend is right. Sólo un pequeño consejo. ;)

@1943cesar
@1943cesar 9 жыл бұрын
@gioamador93355
@gioamador93355 9 жыл бұрын

Hola Ana, I can read and write Spanish at a 3rd year level, however, I find it difficult to develop an ear for it at a normal conversational speed. I've tried watching television shows in Spanish but I find myself lost because the conversation is spoken very quickly unlike Spanish instructional videos which are much slower. What do you recommend I do to train my ear to listen Spanish at a faster speed?
@ButterflySpanish
@ButterflySpanish 10 жыл бұрын
I think the only way you will train your ear is to keep watching those shows. You will get something. I did not understand a word in spoken English and two years later, I understand almost everything. Also, try to read oral texts such as interviews, and speeches. Listen to some Spanish news (maybe 15 minutes every day). Noticias con Carmen Arisegui from MVS radio in Mexico is good. You will pick up some vocabulary and listen to some funny commercials. It will take some time but persevere and you will master it. Get some Spanish speaking friends and kindly ask them to speak to you only in Spanish please so you can improve you second language. I hope this helps. Read books that have a lot of dialogue. I hope this helps. Muchos abrazos, Ana.

Jasmine Monet Thanks for the advice! I live in Southern California and would love to live in Mexico City for a few months so I could force myself to speak Spanish everyday. Unfortunately, this is not possible at this time. I try to speak with native speakers in SoCal whenever possible. I've also considered hiring a Spanish tutor with whom I can have conversations with. For now, Spanish tutorial videos like this channel are as good as it's going to get for me.
