My favorite is the "Velvet" series spoken in Castellan Spanish. When I first watched it, I did it after I set the tv with the English caption. Then I watched it again, in Spanish this time. I did a lot of 'pauses' to catch what is being said and took notice of the tenses, verbs, adjectives, etc. used. Their dialogues are priceless. I jotted those in a notebook. Lots of chances to learn Spanish in this tv series. Even songs that you'll want to hear again and again. I've gone back to a certain episode several times. I strongly recommend it FOR ADULTS ONLY as it has sex, lots of passionate kissing, smoking/drinking and brief nudity scenes. However, they are all done discreetly. But the story line is memorable! Prepare to be addicted to the story. So good.!!! P.S. I thank you for your suggestions. I was just excited to share my experience watching Spanish movies on Netflix and didn't mean to disregard your suggestions.

I LOVED that series. I watched in Spanish subtitles and audio. Great learning experience especially because the story draws you in.

Is it a good that i'm watching but understanding it in english? For instance I know a lot of words so my brain is comprehending in english...is that normal? Am I still receiving what I need to learn the language?

I can't understand shows yet without subtitles but I heard subtitles don't help with listening skills

I feel really embarrased asking this question but is it a good idea to do this if I'm learning a certain type of Spanish like Puerto Rican spanish. Because they really don't have any puerto rican shows on Netflix. I mean I don't think they do. Does the accent matter on the shows. Because I watch mostly and listen to mostly Puerto Rican Spanish and the other half of my spanish is from my favorite band CNCO who is Dominican, Puerto Rican, Cuban and Ecuadorian. Sorry for the long question Muchas Gracias! Thank for all you do!🙂

I think it matters if you are looking to learn a particular Spanish dialect. You may unknowingly catch another accent due to consuming shows or videos, etc. of that type of Spanish. Accents are catchier than we realize.

No it won't affect you if you watch a show. I recommend students do try to stick to one Spanish for the most part, because that will affect your pronunciation, words you use, intonation, etc... But also Spanish is much easier to learn when you are having fun watching things you enjoy. So if you find a show you like in Spanish, don't worry about what Spanish it is in, just consume! haha
