Learn the embroidery A-Z with me. In this video, we will start with the Stitches Beginning With A.
We will cover Arrowhead Stitch, Algerian Eye Stitch, Armenian Edge Stitch, Algerian Plait Stitch and Applique Stitch.
Develop your stitch repertoire and make s slow stitch book as we move through the series.
If you are interested in workshops, here's the info:
Based in Historic Lincoln in the UK, we have 3 levels to cater for stitchers at different stages of your embroidery adventure:
Complete Beginners - Saturday June 8th 2024
In this 'Beginners' workshop, we will cover the basics of embroidery. I will teach you 12 foundational stitches to get you started, and you will leave with a complete working clock. You choose your colours, and I will show you the rest.
This workshop is perfect for first-time stitchers, or those wanting to make the transition from needlepoint or cross-stitch into hand embroidery.
Book Here: shorturl.at/ouETV
Intermediate Stitchers - Saturday July 13th 2024
In this 'Improvers' workshop, we will learn basic applique and use our simple stitches to create a beautiful, seasonal woodland scene. I will show you how to build a composition and how to create depth in your work.
This workshop is perfect for anyone who has some knowledge of embroidery and a repertoire of simple stitches and who wants to start creating their own simple designs using applique.
Book Here: shorturl.at/glzES
Experimental Stitchers - Saturday August 24th 2024
In this 'Experimenters' workshop, we will learn how to turn photographs into stitched landscape scenes. We will create texture and depth using dynamic stitch and try out some mixed-media techniques to add drama.
This workshop is perfect for stitchers who are comfortable with a range of embroidery stitches and applique and who want to start creating their own designs using a range of textile techniques.
Book Here: shorturl.at/fBM14
All materials are supplied, and we will also provide lunch and drinks.
We will finish in time for you to head into the city centre and explore historic Lincoln, or to head out into the wolds to admire the beautiful views.
I hope to see you there.

Thank you, I am also ready for a new project. I don’t like the one I am doing now and have been thinking of abandoning it. I have seen a couple of other ladies do an alphabet series and I like the idea. Got to make pages and gather supplies. 😃

I'm so glad you are inspired to join in. No project is abandoned - just 'rested' until you find the fun again. Some of my favourite things are projects that took years because of a long pause in the middle. 🤗

Got started on the A-Z project this week. Your tip to start with a piece of fabric to set a color scheme was very helpful to get me started. Yay.

I sew both hand embroidery and wool appliqué, I’ve never made a book. This is very informative. I’ve been quite limited as to the stitches I use and have not used most of the stitches you showed. Thank you for your time and sharing this video. Definitely going to check out the books too.

Hi what size needle do you use please ?
@featherstitchhouse
@featherstitchhouse 2 ай бұрын
I use a size 7 John James embroidery needle. I prefer a large needle. I do tend to stitch with whatever is nearest though! If it's sharp and I can thread it, it will do for me. If I am using machine thread, I use a sharps needle so that the thread doesn't come out all the time. If I am making knotted stitches, I use a straw needle. I have no needle discipline though. I'm very casual about it. Hope that helps. 🙂

They start out 8x8 and end up 6x6. I like having room to work and it keeps the block safe from fraying and shrinkage as I stitch. 😊

Disappointed, what design name is a, b,c, etc. It's not what you're doing. Don't care for what fabrics, items you're using. It's the stitch.

It's stitches that start with A. The tutorials are after the introduction that explains the series. It's all in the description.
