It's for free, but depending on the video, you get a lot of views and thus channel growth & ad/sponsor money. So it's not like Hikaru doesn't get anything in return. If anything, it's a win-win situation for everyone.

​@@Toopa88 that's true, and thank goodness for youtube, but consider that pretty much all of Hikaru's most popular/most seen videos are ones where he's playing with well-known individuals. Those are the most profitable videos for him to make, and I'm certain he knows that. So maybe he doesn't qualify for sainthood by teaching us openings, but it's pretty rad of him to do so.

The London is one of the most interesting openings to me. At the lower level, it’s a premoved system. At the higher levels you get all the theory and traps. It’s just cool.

I like the London, it’s one of the best openings under 1000 alongside the Caro Kann as black, not much you have to learn plus good stable position with some development though the Advance Caro Kann is tough with the space disadvantage I think both are great below 1200 and worth learning for ANY 600-1200. Vienna and Ponziani are also top tier imo.

@@davidbartsch255 Yeah, that’s what helped me get to 900 right now. Also training tactics. Gotham has courses on both on chessly, I do recommend his Caro course.

I didn't like the London before because it felt very boring to me and scary when playing black because I didn't know how to defend it, now I kinda want to try to play this opening from both perspectives 😂 Thank you so much Hikaru! ❤The best teacher of chess who understands we only have 2 brain cells to work with and he says "hold my instant coffee", and deals with it. So excited for more opening lessons!🙏🏻🔥

For a moment i thought at 14:00 that line hangs a pawn because of dxc5 the bishop cannot take the pawn but i realized the bishops trade then the queen takes the pawn. This is probably why the knight goes to d7 and not c6 at 14:02.

I captured a piece with h pawn and opened the rook file. I then decided to Castle on queen side(glad I waited before kingside castle) allowing double rooks to assist in checkmate.

One time you would not want to capture towards the center from the H file is if the H file is already partially open (bye bye room). May seem obvious, but just goes to show there is no "always".

Could you cover the line with 1.d4,Nf6 2.Bf4,c5 3.dxc5 or 3.e3,Qb6 cuz black always seems to at least equalize in that line and its very hard to play for white.

I noticed that when playing hxg3 instead of fxg3. It makes is considerably harder to your opponent to mate you in many positions i've encountered.

I had a question about capture towards the center with pawns.. say if there was a knight on g3 and your king is castled but the f file would be an open file without your pawn there.. is it then maybe worth it to capture with the f pawn? Or what are the circumstances you should capture this way?

This video is good when you've just learned the London, because it shows some example games featuring the London. Hikaru isn't actually teaching you the London. He's just analyzing the positions the games end up on.
