This is how I've done it for audio too with the field recorders. I bring all the cables too. I've been really impressed with the Tascam DR10sc I bought from Amazon UK. It works great for recording dual tracks from a lav as well as send an out to a wireless system. Works fantastic but some wireless systems are bulky. But it's nice to have 2 sources recording audio as well as dual tracks. Great advice as always. Thanks for sharing.

I also like to get backup audio just in case my primary fails. I'll use a tascam dr10L lav mic and tape it to the front speaker grill using a rycote stickie. It's way better than using camera audio if your primary fails.

Good to see you guys are still going strong in the Wedding game. I was going through my equipment contemplating whether to resell it or not. I thought about checking your guys channel to check for any updates and sort of makes me want to keep it for my own sake of shooting just family events, etc... My business unfortunately never took off but I definitely tried to take your guys perspective of shooting weddings and make it my own style with basically an identical setup. Anyways, just wanted to give my kind words and hope all is well with you guys!

@@mitchmedmedia5386 since I have a background and degree in audio, I can troubleshoot almost any issue. It's not that I completely trust the dj, but as we are starting to film more higher end weddings, the budgets are hiring great dj's which makes it much more reliable. in the case where I don't get a good signal from the dj, I will lav up each presenter just in case so I still have good audio. so never trust a dj, and always have a backup plan ;)

Why do you want to use the two XLR input hack (two male XLR) when you have Duel Record function? Is the duel record function not good enough?
@omarmacedo
@omarmacedo 4 жыл бұрын
Great video, love the Y cable hack. Thanks for sharing this. But I have a question: in DR-44WL, I cannot find a way to record channels 3 and 4 as individual mono channels and get dual recording for each channel at the same time. So, when you use the Y cable, you record one stereo file (with channels 3 and 4 as Left/Right) and another stereo file with channels at lower level? And split them back to individual mono channels in post production?
@Whiteinrevery
@Whiteinrevery 4 жыл бұрын
yep that's correct. when you enable dual recording in the settings, it should set that for whatever tracks you are recording. maybe check the settings for mono recording vs stereo. Not sure where that setting may be as I never had to adjust something like that. Just clicked both 3 and 4 at the same time to record both inputs at the same time.
@godsakes
@godsakes 2 жыл бұрын
With the way they've done it with the Y cable they're recording the same mono signal twice, they've simply set the mixer so one input has less gain (i.e. it acts as the safety track in the event of clipping) But I would have thought they could have got the same result by just plugging in one cable into 1 the XLR port and just have the recorder do a safety track where it automatically records a backup track at a lower gain
@InvisageStudios
@InvisageStudios 4 жыл бұрын
shouldn't use the POST-GAIN port as this is after the volume control (GAIN) and if the DJ changes this - your recording will change. Pick the one above it, pre-gain or loop

Hi there. After watching your video on how to get 4 audio tracks with a single XLR input, I bought the recorder and the cable. I have configured the recorder in 4CHL and in DUAL mode but when recording it only generates 2 tracks with the extension 34 and D34. How do you generate those 4 tracks just using Tascam inputs 3 and 4? Thanks.
@Whiteinrevery
@Whiteinrevery 2 жыл бұрын
You get access to "4" tracks because of the individual Left and Right channels from the one audio source are different volume levels. So technically its 2 audio tracks, but 4 options. What I do for instance is take Track 1 (which has say a volume of -2db in the Left Channel and volume -14db in the Right Chanel) and click on the audio source in Final Cut Pro and turn the track from Stereo into Dual Mono. Then I just disable either the Left or Right channel and am left with only 1 of those 2 signals that is coming through the same on both Left and Right now. Hope that helps explain the process a little better.

I recently bought the most recent Tascam DR-44WLB solely because of the Wi-Fi connectivity feature boasted about by Tascam in their marketing. I wanted to position the Tascam several metres from the sound source (our band P.A.) and control the device and monitor levels etc from an iPad on stage. No matter how many attempts and re-boots the Wi-Fi feature simply will not function. It will connect but within minutes connectivity is lost and the whole time wasting procedure, ad nauseum, is repeated. If remote control of this recorder is important to you then, honestly, walk on by and look elsewhere. I've tried connecting with other devices like Android phones, tablets, iPhones etc. None will connect and work with the Tascam DR 44WLB.
