if a & b are positive integers, then , from the 2nd equation, "a" can only be 1 (or 2) and "b" can only be 2 (or 1).

You are absolutely right. Why going through all the steps?

Before watching: Our powers are added together in the second equation to give us a whole number. Further, the result of the first equation is a whole number. This very heavily implies - but does not *confirm* - that our exponents are themselves whole numbers. 6^2 = 36, 6^1 = 6. Thus, it seems that either a=1, b=2, or a=2, b=1, would satisfy. We go to the second equation. 2+1 = 1+2 = 3. This confirms our results from equation number one. Thus, our solutions are (1, 2) and (2,1)
