By the way, I recently discovered Sean and then watched your collab, panoramic shift vid today and subbed immediately. You two are refreshing in online magic. Sick of egos and idiots. Hehe! My thoughts on this subject..I realised one day that if I craft a question that gS seemingly both answers in it already, I can make it seem like whichever answer they say is going along with how they expected me to go. For example, "OK, I need to get rid of a card here so choose one." You see what Im saying? I am offering that I want to ditch a card but then also offering that I want them to choose one, which can be misconstrued as meaning choose one to ditch or choose one to keep. This flies in the face of what you said about the word 'choose' but it really matters not about the word you are using, as long as they have both possible options in the question. We will have to agree to disagree on using the word choose. (Choose, select, take, indicate they mean the same thing, it isnt the important factor dude.!) As long as you offer BOTH answers in your question then the spectator thinks you didn't go against them if you switch the direction on them. I keep testing this and it really does work every time 😃😃😃 I just realised: if the question is crafted differently, like when you said about having an invisible deck in your hand and asking them to say which colour you took from the box?, well in that case the word CHOOSE would definitely be a no no. So words are important but they depend on each other. If you use certain phrasing then you also must use certain wording. Make that the equivoque rule 😉
@ReidFerry

Wow man I’m genuinely impressed, I hadn’t though of the idea of including both answers in the question but I must say it’s brilliant! I think you hit it right on, “choose” wouldn’t matter in that case. I was referring to the way I phrase the questions which has always been to make it seem like there’s only one possible answer even though there are two. With your way your almost setting the scenario up for a sort of “miscommunication” or “confusion” but that won’t raise any suspicion which I think is brilliant. I think both strategies have their strong suits and I’m definitely going to start playing with your phrasing! SOO good!😁 Thanks Paul!🤘🏻

Also thanks so much for the kind words, really means a lot! I was also thinking you could easily change “choose” to “take” or something else in your phrasing. I might opt for that simply because for me, when you say choose people sometimes tend to subconsciously think choose means “the one I want”. So just to avoid that confusion I would personally avoid that word. I’m sure you don’t have to and maybe I’m thinking into it too much but I have experienced it. Just a thought 🤔

Thanks for making this video. Some interesting ideas here. I, however, am of the belief that statements like: that leaves us with, we are left with etc are weak and should be avoided. To an intelligent person these statements are delays that give us the time to change the plot. Take for example the option of forcing a knife from a spoon, fork and knife. The knife is in the center. Start with”with your right hand reach for one…” If they reach for the knife say “and pick it up.” You are done. If they reach for the spoon or the fork continue with “and pick it up and then with your other hand, pick up another object.” if they are holding a spoon in the fork and nonstop flow of words continue with, “and placed on them aside.” You have forced the knife. If on the other hand, they are holding the spoon and a knife, you simply say (ala Max Maven) “ now pick one for me. (emphasizing the word me). This phrase is genius. If they select the spoon, you keep that and they are holding the knife. After all, you asked them to pick one for you. It makes sense that the other one is for them to keep. This also allows you to give them the opportunity to switch. This, of course, is very powerful. Either way, they end up with the selected item.

I suggest that you take a look at the video multiplicity by Max Maven, which shows how you could combine equivoque with multiple outs. I also suggest you watch the performance of inferno by Joshua Jay. Another good effect to watch is max performing positive-negative.
@jackAndrews666
@jackAndrews666 Жыл бұрын
One final thought and that is to NOT think of one choice as the best case scenario. This can lead to a tell, when the spectator chooses anything, than what you determine to be the best possible outcome. I cannot count how many times the spectator has chosen something other than what the the performer believes to be the best choice. For a microsecond, the performer, then has a defeated book on his face. If you think that the spectator doesn’t notice this, you are wrong.
@ReidFerry
@ReidFerry Жыл бұрын
I think there always will be a best case scenario of course but yes good point, we should not act as if one is better than the other. This is of course if we are using multiple outs as well. Otherwise with proper equivoque we will always arrive at the desired outcome

In the 4 object force, when we have final two objects, we can say" It's time for elimination. point one " when they touch the force object, we can say that,"oh, it's time to eliminate. you choose this, we eliminate the other one"or they touch other object,we can say,"I said this is a time to eliminate, you touch this,we eliminate this object". I've always loved this idea. It's actually how I figured out the first effect I ever solved on my own. The magician forced a card, and then separated the deck into stacks and had the spectator pointing at the stacks. When I realized that half the time he was leaving their stack and half the time he was taking it away, it kinda clicked that he already knew which card it was. I was probably around 10 years old, and I felt like a god. 😂

So I was hoping you were going to instruct how to whittle down from the single suit to a single card. Is that possible or is that just too many selections to be made. (from Hearts to 9 of Hearts for example).
@ReidFerry
@ReidFerry 2 жыл бұрын
Yea man you definitely can! I’d start by eliminating them down to a value and then doing the suit force as the values won’t be quite as clean. But there’s lots of options, easiest would be to force one of the picture cards. Simply use equivoque to force the picture cards then you could do the “male” vs “female” cards and the jack vs King if needed. If you want to do number cards you could eliminate them by evens and odds, numbers higher/lower then 5 etc. Just keep dividing the options into 50/50 choices and you can force anything. Look at how I structured the 4 object force and try to mimic some of those sentences for the scenario you chose. Just make sure each sentence/option is slightly different and logical and you can use equivoque the whole way.

Great job! You've got a skill for explaining your ideas in an easily understandable coherent manner. I've been tinkering with "real" mentalism a little bit. I'm fascinated by the micro tells people instinctively give off in a "which hand" routine. The fact that their eyes twitch to the hand they're hiding the object in really blew my mind. I wouldn't have even believed it worked if I hadn't seen and tested it myself. If anyone reading this is one of the lucky people to have purchased one of the 500 books from Timon Krause regarding this, hit me up. I'll pay or trade generously for it.

@@ReidFerry I've got a bit I do table side that I think is hilarious. I ask to borrow two revolvers from the specs... when they laugh and say they don't have any I tell them no worries, any two pistols will do... your sock gun, appendix carry gun, small of the back, shoulder holster... just any two guns. They laugh and say they don't have any so I make this big scene of not believing them because every American has guns. I finally go, "FINE. Since you weirdos don't have any guns, let's raise the stakes considerably. Instead of our lives we'll be playing for this dollar" and I take out a buck and these two toy cap guns I rigged that only I can fire. We do a Russian roulette thing with the toy guns and I deliberately lose, and give them the buck and suggest they include it back in the generous tip they're going to give me 😂. Anyways, I write this whole big story because one, it's fun to talk magic, and two, I'm trying to work on a method where I can influence which toy gun they select through language and sliding one of the guns closer to them. I'm convinced this is something that can actually be done. I'm pretty sure Timon Krause did it in the last selection in his Fool Us appearance. Have you seen his performance?

When I was just a little kid, I had equivoke done to me at a magic shop and I knew exactly what was going on and called the counter guy on it 🤣 I know not everyone has a weird analytical brain like me, but when I'm trying to do it, I just feel in my gut the spec knows exactly what's happening even though in reality they have no idea. No no no it is pronounced exactly the way you are saying it. I felt saddened when you said you were pretty sure that the technically correct way to say it was eck-wi-voke! Cos that's absolutely not the way. The que at the end is French and is a known suffix on many words and is pronounced kay. So keep pronouncing it as you are and keep correcting the people who are clueless! As for Siri...hmmf. OK ok I now openly admit that amongst those 'clueless people' I refer to in this comment there is one called Paul Ham J. Yes, I include myself as one of the clueless... ?.. but not any more!
