This is pt. 3 of the video series "Learn to Mig Weld in a DAY". This video goes into depth on how to mig weld thin wall square tubing. For me this is one of the more difficult types of welding for the beginner. The problem lies with different style weld joints. You have inside corner joints, outside corner joints and also butt weld joints, and if that's not enough you are welding on thin wall tubing in very short runs. I even struggled on some of the joints and I also need more practice. I like to share my failures as well as my wins in these videos, so you can see that it don't always go as smoothly as people show!!! Hopefully you can take away some valuable tricks in this video to help speed up your learning curve. This type of weld joint is a familiar to the beginner because this is a common and easy bought type of material used by beginners. Hope this helps guys . Make sure to drop a comment, Like share and Subscribe. God Bless Have a Blessed day, Adrian at AC Designs Garage!!!!!!

Hello from Australia.. I'd like to start with Thank you... I've recently taken up welding and there is so much to learn and the tools.. so many tools.. but your tips and techniques have really helped me improve. Love to see something on how to keep stuff square... It seems you add a weld it all goes out of square almost instantly.. this video helps a bit with that but would love to see more on that... It really kills the vibe when I'm needing the end result square and once welded it's not.. could weld it to the table as other videos suggest but really... Grinding a lot sucks... Once again thank you... It is appropriated...

Warping or distortion is always a problem. There's no way to avoid it, only to fight it or compensate for it. If the part is small enough, your best bet is to clamp it to something strong and solid. Another way that helps is to weld on opposite sides of the part so that some of the metal shrinkage on one side pulls the other side into alignment. If it is something where only one side will be welded (fillet), then you have to open up the angle somewhat to allow for the amount that the weld bead will change it when it cools. That mainly comes down to experience or guesswork. Correct fit up of the components helps somewhat. Also, the thickness of the base metal is a huge factor in warping. That's why you may not even notice any change in 6mm plate, but 1mm sheet will bend, warp and buckle to the extreme from heat input. It is something that you will learn how to deal with as you build things from metal.

I consider those beautiful welds. Thanks for the tutorial. If you’re going to spend some time on TIG please explain why and where you would use it over MIG. The technique I have tried and failed with time and time again is using a spool gun with aluminum. I’ve literally tried dozens of times and never obtained a single weld that was worth bragging about. It’s definitely not a big deal because I’ve essentially given up, but I sure would like some input into where I went wrong. Thx again.

Thank you , Ill have a video comming soon using a spool gun on aluminum , my arccaptian came with one. As for the tig v/s mig. The only time I use mig over tig is usually when like building tables or simple repairs that dont have a great fitup. But most of the time I prefer tig because of the quality and not throwing sparks everywhere. Ill also be putting up some beginner tig vids before long also! Thank you for your continued support God Bless !!!!

Why not trigger weld the outside corner? Seems it would be a good application for that method

I agree, for some reason the internet hates trigger welding, done right its strong!!!. When im here welding thats how I do it!

I've been learning to mig on a yeswelder 205ds. it lays down some pretty good welds (i think..) but I've still got a little to learn. using synergic mode, it does great, but it almost seems like it adds too much filler, or maybe i move too slow. I initially learned on tig, so i feel like im moving fast comparatively. A video showing too much wire speed vs. too little and how to determine if you need more or less wire speed, and it's my first real project is reinforcing my rear subframe, so i want to be confident in my penatration/strength.
