You killed this painting and your art history lessons are always great. You teach us something new and old which is cool. I had never heard of Clara Peter's but that painting of the flowers is just plain awesome. Yours was my favorite because that's what I'm into. See you next time

hey thanks so very much for the kind words! I never heard of her either until I saw that painting in the museum years ago. I bet there must be many thousands of great artists through the centuries that we never hear of. There is just so much incredible art out there though!

Really great video. I like to hear your art history musings. I had a bit of an altercation with my painting this week. I think the wrong surface and a subject i was not really enthusiastic about. I think a nice flower still life may well be the antidote.
@theartworkshop

Thanks Ken! I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes the enthusiasm isn't there for a specific painting and it make the whole process a challenge. You have to go for the things that get you excited about painting!

My fairly new interest in airbrushing is why I was drawn to your channel. I am a 60 year old male with an enthusiastic love of art yet little experience in its production. Usually more of a dirty greasy hands mechanical character. To my own surprise I am finding extreme satisfaction in attempting artistic creation . One question please. An obsessive trait that lives within me has led me to quickly try different art media. Logic tells me that I may be bitting too much at once . What are your thoughts on delving in different media at once . BTW really appreciate that you share your thought process so clearly and the historical bits are great .
@theartworkshop

Thanks so much Marco. So awesome to hear you getting into art- I guarantee you that your mechanical background will serve you well in art/painting! I've jumped from one medium to another constantly when I started out. I think it's the best way to find what you love. No medium, technique, or tool is better than any other- I'm a firm believer in that. Find what you enjoy using, what you like to make, and enjoy that process. So many amazing mediums out there.

Great tutorial, and I love the art history. I have Gessoed several canvas panels using your technique and it produced an amazing painting surface, the only problem I have had is that the larger panels have a warp when they dry, how can I flatten them? Or how can I prevent the warping?
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop 6 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I just love the gessoed surface so much. What type of panels are you using? That's the reason I prefer canvas over panels- since you stretch them, they never warp. I found panels to be amazing for smaller works (under 4ft) but once you get larger the panels need to be supported and cradled by wooden bars so that they don't warp. Higher end brands like Ampersand make some amazing larger panels, but they get so expensive! I made a few 8ft panels in the past and it was a fair amount of work build the supporting frame.

@@theartworkshop Currently I am using Asani canvas panels, the biggest I have used so far is 11X17, but I hope to get to 18X24 in the future.

can you just answer me a quick question ?? can you make some videos about respirators ? what you use ? thanks
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop 6 ай бұрын
You need to reach out to the paint manufacturer for the right answer on this. Any good paint brand will tell you their recommendation for a respirator and how to use it their products. That's what I would recommend.

Hello, Have you ever tried Schmincke Airbrush paint (ink) I have been asked to use it to paint a model and never used it before. I can't find any info on the net about it. Thanks .
@theartworkshop

No, but it is one of those paints that I've heard such great things about. Supposed to be high quality paint. The only reason I haven't bought them is the price. They are expensive!

@theartworkshop

I'm not sure why that is either. Every now and then you'll just get a bad bottle of paint- happens with every brand. Color is off or doesn't spray well. It is pretty rare with the big brands like golden, creatx, and liquitex though
