I'm really glad you did this man. This has been one of my absolute favorite songs since I was 7 years old. I had no idea what it meant obviously, but my sister used to drive me to school and it was in the mix of CDs she'd pop in and I'd always request it. Every year that passes, this song seems to become that much more real and powerful for me. You have an incredible voice and now it appears you're an incredible teacher, too. Between the ages of 12 and 22, you retain the most information from things that created an emotional response. This song is one of them. The nostalgia I feel when hearing this song along with so many others from this time makes me sad. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. This is such a depressing and powerful song and when you first heard it while in high school, it became something that you’ll never forget. I’m in my 30’s now and just heard this song again recently for the first time since my high school years. I remembered every single lyric. THAT’S the power of music!

First time I heard this song I thought, "Man, I want to learn how to sing like that." It's such a powerful, dynamic performance. The powerful consonances, crisp vowels, and there are a few parts that absolutely arrested me. Like the "Thinks about her now and how he never really wept" part, when you kind of almost yell out "Thinks." I'm not entirely sure what you're doing, but the vowel kind of sounds like it goes from more open to less open as the note inflects, and at the top of it (the transition from the k and s in "thinks" to the "about her now"), it almost sounds like a nose-flaring snarl, as if the pressure raises to the nasal area and soft pallet. I know, I know, that's a ridiculous take, but whatever it is, it just slaps the listener in the face with a massive wall of emotion. And it's the little parts like that, contrasted with the soft, mournful sounding parts, that that absolutely roped me in. And of course, the best part of all: the very last "I cannot remember what made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise" part. Man. I love it. Absolutely love it. Such an eruption of emotion. I could listen to this song 24/7. Okay, if you haven't noticed, this is probably my favorite song. It's just quite frankly a masterpiece.

This was one of my late older sister's favorite songs. This and live's lightening crashes. I felt like such a cool kid getting to listen to the older kid music and riding around with her. Lots of memories

I have this weird thing where I associate almost every song I've ever heard (if it meant something to me) with a memory of the first time I ever heard it. For this song, it was during a sleepover with by best friend at the time Matthew's place. I was 8. The song was playing in the living room of his mom's 2nd floor apartment. It was our first time hanging out in a while because our moms either had a small falling out or we were too far away for a visit. We played "In the house of the rising son" on a cheap electronic keyboard that day. I both love and hate these weird memories sometimes because I know I can never replicate most of them.

I remember first hearing an early version on WIDR, and thinking, “Goddam, this is a hit!” So happy it was. Great job, Brian.

this is so cool. I heard this today on my Pandora on a 90's alt rock channel I haven't listened to in awhile. the song itself is so evocative, starts slow and mellow and really builds to a classic punchy 90's rock song. it always takes me back to a pretty crazy time and place in life. I mean I remember where and the girl I was with at the time and this song was getting a lot of airplay. we're cruising down the highway in the Rogue Valley and I can see Mt Shasta in the distance and everything. wonder how she's doing. anyway I look up on YT tonight to see how to play it and I remember looking it up years ago and it seemed hard to play but leave it to you Brian to make it simple thank God for capos lol. and thank you for this great great song.

Great lesson there, Brian. I finally learnt to play Mileage tonight the way you play it after seeing you up at the 10th and 12th frets in a live video on KZfaq. I’ve been playing it lower down the neck with a partial capo for a while. Mileage has gotta be one of the best songs ever written. I heard it on internet radio here in Denmark about 15 years ago and fell out of my chair, then rushed to find out where I could buy Resurrection. I was a fan immediately. Man, this song brings back so many memories! My brother and I, had very...very different tastes in music but this one song, right here, we shared our love for together. I graduated high school in '97 and left for Basic Training two weeks later and this is the song that brought my brother and myself closer together before I left for basic. It's a beautiful, timeless classic!

I remember not long after this song became popular, I heard an interview on the radio with Brian. I fully expected a typical front man personality and was stunned by how down to earth and, frankly, normal he came across. Thank you for this. I’m a drummer but I still enjoyed seeing how you relate the song to an audience. And as a drummer, I feel like this is one of the most well arranged songs I’ve heard. Every part is perfect including the drums.

I discovered this song when I was a kid on a CD labeled Best Alternative Volume 7, along with Rammstein Faith No More, Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins.... I was like 6 or 7 then and coming from listening to 80ss Metal and Ex-Yu rock this discovery was huge for me. Its been in my personal top 10 ever since. The vibe just gets me. I saw the Verve Pipe in Pelham, NY on 9/18/21. I was lucky enough to have back stage passes. The band totally kicked ass first and foremost. I met Brian after the show, he was the coolest most down to earth person, rockstar or not. It was great meeting him. I’m 38 and the Freshman was a major part of my childhood. Great song, great guy. The band rocked.
