This was very helpful!!! I could not find the pattern you were mentioning at the end with 0/2/0/2
@angelacorbin2400
@angelacorbin2400 3 жыл бұрын
It's a finger pattern for violin playing in first position. All the space notes are either open strings ("0") or played with 2 fingers ("2"). So... the finger pattern needed to play the notes in the spaces (starting with open D), are: 0 2 0 2 0 2. etc... So when you identify a SPACE note, you also know that it will either be played as an open string (0) or 2nd finger (2)! All the line notes are either played with 1 finger or 3 fingers, so the pattern of line note fingerings (starting with the lowest line note, E) is : 1 3 1 3 1 etc.. So when you identify a LINE note, you also know that it will either be played with 1st finger or 3rd finger! Hope that helps!

i think im stupid. i didnt get how i can press the strings by reading the notes. im clueless on how i can read it given that the violin only has 4 strings and the musical bar has 5 with additional lines below. i never learned how to read notes and im just relying on tablatures for acoustics, been playing for more than 10 yrs and currently considering playing the violin. anyone here who plays the guitar? when its open how will i position my fingers? on the guitar tab if its open then that specific note still marks a string but on this one it is inbetween the strings, what does it mean? edit: how do you determine the fret on violins?
@angelacorbin2400
@angelacorbin2400 Жыл бұрын
It can be difficult to learn where to place your fingers since there are no frets on the violin! It may be helpful for you to mark your fingerboard with tape (I use non residue pinstripe tape from the auto store) or ask a teacher or friend to help you.

Absolute Violin beginner here. I am a bit confused. You put a 4 above the pinkie finger, but none of the notes that followed had a 4 assigned to them. Why is that?
@angelacorbin2400
@angelacorbin2400 3 жыл бұрын
Good observation and great question! The 4th finger (pinky) IS used on each string! But I didn’t include it in this video to avoid confusion or beginners. By now, you probably understand that when placed on the string, each finger raises the pitch by one note. If you use all four fingers (including the pinky), the string you are playing will sound the same as the next string! So, for example four fingers on the D string will sound as “A,” and four fingers on the A string will sound as “E.” Another reason that beginner violin music often does not include the fourth finger, is that the fourth finger tends to be the weakest and least experienced finger...especially for small children. However, you may be quite prepared to start using your fourth finger with intentional finger exercises and careful practice! Just be sure to keep your fingernails short enough so the very top of your fingers can press the strings down… and your fingers can stay curved. Good luck on your violin adventure! I hope that helps.

If you have “tape” on your violin, you just put your left hand fingertips on the tapes and press the string down firmly to the fingerboard. The note pattern on the G will be: G 1 2 3 Or “ G A B C” So after you play open G, if you place your first finger (pointer) on the first tape (the tape nearest to the scroll) on the G string, it becomes “A” and 2 fingers pressing down on the string (on the tapes) is “B”, and 3 fingers is “C.” This same concept works for all the strings. The notes and fingerings for each string: G A B C (G 1 2 3) D E F# G (D 1 2 3) A B C# D (A 1 2 3) E F# G# A (E 1 2 3) Hope that helps! Keep practicing! It will get easier!

SORRY SINCE VIOLIN HAS 4 STINGS WHY THERE 5 LINES ? NEWBIE HERE SINCERELY LOOKING TO LEARN
@angelacorbin2400
@angelacorbin2400 3 жыл бұрын
Good question! It IS confusing that there are four strings on the violin and five lines on the music. Musical notation was created for many instruments to read, so unfortunately, it does not really relate specifically to the fingers on the violin strings. Tablature might be what you are thinking of. Guitar players often read tablature which is literally a picture of the strings and where to place your fingers on the strings. It looks a lot like musical notation, but it actually correlates with the strings. If you really want to learn to read the notes, first you need to practice identifying the names of the notes on the musical staff. Then, using the violin strings and fingerings (The numbers written above the notes in my video) you can also learn how to play each note on the violin! It is a complicated process! But learning to read music is definitely worth your time! Keep practicing, don’t give up!

Using mnemonics like EGBDF and FACE might be helpful for total beginners, but I suggest you stop using them at some point; otherwise, you'll find yourself mumbling "EGBDF FACE" forever. One major problem with relying on note names like EGBDF and FACE is that their functions change based on the key signature. For instance, E is the root in E major but the third in C major. In my opinion, what's more important than the names of the notes are the intervals and functional names, especially when you read music note after note. I know it's too complex for beginners but functions really describes the sound that you hear. Major third makes a bright sound, Fifth makes a strong sound, Seventh makes sound that wants resolution. Understanding these intervals and functions makes it easier to read music and understand the relationships between notes. When playing the violin, these intervals and functions translate directly to finger positions. For example, when you play B on the second string using your index finger, the same finger on the first string can play a fifth above, and your pinky on the first string plays the octave. Once you get used to the combination of key, intervals, and functions, reading music and finding the correct finger positions becomes much easier. Some times you don't even have to read it because you know the sound you want to play that directly dictates intervals. This is a huge leap from counting E,G,B,D,F. Violin strings are intentionally tuned a fifth apart (GDAE). This means that once you learn the combination, you can play the same way on any string. For that matter, viola and cello are also tuned a fifth apart (CGDA). I'm not a professional violinist, but this is what I've learned. Hopefully, it makes sense for other beginner violinists.

True! There is no "B" string on the violin... but you can play the note "B" by placing your first finger on the "A" string to raise the pitch.

Here's what i have learnt todayThe strings on violin are called GDAE As in good day but with an e The second string (D) has D E F on the first 3 down as in someone's def On the notes the letter in every in between line spells face going upwards (every 2) under the first line That's when def starts So far we have defgabce then it's def again so we have defgabcdef Its the same as a piano going across with all notes

Yes! It’s so helpful to understand how the piano notes work, isn’t it? The more you learn about other instruments, the more you understand the connectedness of music!
