Thank you! I just got a Serger and this is a big help. More serger projects please!
@Mellysews6 жыл бұрын
I use my serger a lot, but generally just for finishing seams, so it's unlikely that there will be many serger only projects; it's just not what my machine gets used for.

I’ve really got to use different keywords because why am I just finding this video... being gentle on myself, I’m also learning more now (terms) to even know what I’m looking for. Thank you for easy to follow information.

Hi Melly. This is the BEST video I've watched on KZfaq. I always wondered how to make this decorative border with the serger. ok! The blade has to be lifted. Another precious tip is to stretch the stitches I learnt so much in a few minutes by watching your video on decorative border. thought the serger ONLY CUTS. 😁😁😁 Thanks for sharing and caring. Big hugs to your little handsome model. Maybe he's 3 years now. 👍👍👍🎅🎅🎅💕💕💕 Wish you all the best and Happy Holidays. May your dreams come TRUE

Thank you for this video! Do you know if it is possible to assemble the regular way with a 4 thread overlock and then use the flatlock to finish the seam on the outside like a coverstitch just to get that decorative look when sewing leggings?
@Mellysews Жыл бұрын
No, you would have a really thick double seam if you did that. If you want a fake overstitch look you'd need to do the flat lock for the assembly.

If I wanted the ladder stitch to be on the Right side so ribbon could be pulled thru the stitches? Would I just double fold the hem to the right side, and do everything else the same? Or have I totally missed something about the flat lock hem? This was easy to follow and a great vid, but I can confuse me sometimes.
@Mellysews4 жыл бұрын
Whichever side you want the ladder part to be on should be the side folded together.
@kimberlyclem69744 жыл бұрын
would you adjust the seam allowance since you aren’t using the blade on the seams?
@Mellysews4 жыл бұрын
You might need to, it depends on your pattern

How do you to the neck hole? That looks tricky
@Mellysews Жыл бұрын
I basted the neckband on before doing the flatlocking

hey! but what if i don’t want it to be flat? should i just leave as it is? isn’t it going to flatten by itself?
@Mellysews4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand your question. If you don't want a flat stitch, use a different stitch than this one.

Ma'am i want to know what is the articles or magzines name which you are holding in your hand and 3 thread flatlock is written. Plz tell me the name of magzine
@Mellysews3 жыл бұрын
It's not a magazine, it is the instruction manual that came with my serger.

is flatlock stitch the same as overlock stitch?
@Mellysews Жыл бұрын
No. They are two different types of stitches, both sewn with a serger.

What is the main purpose of flatlock really? Its like and edging but its just flat?
@Mellysews20 күн бұрын
It is a stretchy seam that keeps the fabric flat instead of creating a seam allowance that flaps around.
@lisao30416 жыл бұрын
Very cool. I just watched another video with this same type of hem and she never mentioned turning off the KNIFE! That would have been a problem.
@Mellysews6 жыл бұрын

🤔Would you use this stitch to sew leggins? is it strong enough to not rip apart in the middle of a squat? 😂
@Mellysews Жыл бұрын
I personally would not use this on the crotch seams of leggings - I just don't trust anything but the strongest stitching there. But I would on any other seam as long as the tension is exactly right, which, depending on your machine and specific fabric, can be tricky. So practice with scraps of the leggings fabric first to make sure you've got it set just right.
