Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion - the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me - from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

I speak from experience on knowing what your rifle “likes” to shoot. I was having terrible luck getting very good groups out of just about any ammo i shot in a cheap Ruger American 6.5 creedmoor. And was getting pretty bummed that I just couldn’t seem to shoot that rifle well. And finally discovered that it’s “favorite” ammo is gold box federal fusion, and the groups are about as good as they’re gonna get without a LOT of hand-reloading to find something better.

I watched the 4th and 5th shots at .25x speed and you can see the 4th shot go into the 3rd shot hole and the 5th shot go into the 2nd shot hole. Excellent group.

Yes that definitely would of been nice to see, she made a good choice picking a 270 win, a flat shooter with moderate recoil.

What scopes are you using on these 22s? (Love the content, BTW.)

Thanks Tom. I'm not sure what was on Ethan's Ruger, but I have a Leupold Vari-X 3-9 E.F.R. on that Kimber. I love those on 22s because they focus down to 15 yards.

Jessie's eye relief is far too large. Her right eye must be at least 6 or 7 in from the scope -she cant be getting a full sight picture from there. It may also mean she is not shouldering the rifle properly - no problem with a 22 rimfire, but not a 308 or 30-06.

Putting your thumb over the stock on a high powered rifle will get you a bloody nose. Keep that thumb inline with the stock, it a good practice to do this with low calibers also and build your muscle memory.

A pet peeve when teaching adults to write was waffling. Extra words eg, ‘go ahead and…’ are wasteful. Just fire the rifle; you don’t need to ‘go ahead’ first.
