The Blues Shuffle is the first bass line I learned, and the first one I teach my students. It can be played easily in any key and sounds good at fast, medium and slow tempos, making it one of the most versatile left hand patterns around! A MUST for any aspiring blues or boogie pianist.
I have also heard this left hand called the "chop" recently, although I am not sure where that started. Growing up we always called it the blues shuffle and I have never met another musician who called it the chop. (Just FYI)
I demonstrate how to play this left hand in the keys of C, F, G, E, A, B, Eb, Bb (0:08)
And then show how it will sound in the context of a song (2:06)
