Watch this video to learn the difference between Intellectual Disabilities vs. Learning Disabilities. This video also touches on the difference between ID and LD special education teaching settings (self-contained vs. resource/inclusion special education teachers). Severe disabilities vs. mild/moderate disabilities. This video is geared towards college students deciding which special education degree to pursue.
Typicaally ID teachers are self-contained teachers and LD teachers are resource/inclusion teachers.

Coming from someone who was Born in the Lifestyle Too The Teachers Out there SLOW it down and take your time with people (Always keep in the back of Your Mind Y'all Work it People like me Live It the only time you can really understand is If you have family's members or Kids who are apart of it. (Also put your students in the special needs class and Let them actually what we actually do or suggest helping out in Special Olympics it's really good program because it's going to look good on a application for college). (For Highschool or any kids that are watching this Please be kind too other kids/Adults like me because we get on the wrong side of the bed like you do. I have been an ID adult for 35 almost 36 years i am also legally blind in my left eye I got the best of both worlds.

Great question! You would want a degree in intellectual disability rather than just learning disabilities. You would want to be considered a self-contained teacher rather than a resource teacher. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

LD students can also be self-contained.

Yes very true! I was just talking in general as an LD teacher your students might come and go from your classroom, whereas ID teachers tend to be more self-contained. But of course every student and teaching job is different :)

@@ActiviTeach Yep! I’m going to be starting a job as a para again for the first time in a few years and I remember subbing as a para back when I was in California and meeting a kiddo who was LD that I knew needed to be self-contained.

Is autism intellectuall disability or a learning disability
@ActiviTeach
@ActiviTeach Жыл бұрын
Autism is a neurological developmental disability so in general it doesn’t really fit under the same categories as intellectual disabilities and learning disabilities. However, in a lot of cases autism can cause a learning disability (a disability in reading, math , etc). A lot of times students with autism need more support and therefore are put in a more self contained classroom with a special education teacher who has an intellectual disability degree. Hopefully that makes sense!

I got learning disability but I also got a special needs statement when I was in school so I had things like 1 to 1 with my teachers and I did speech and launage therapy also was aloud to have lessons outside of school when other people got to much for me so my mentor would take me to a museum or something educational
