No matter how talented Jonah is, to reach this level of mastery has taken HOURS of practice every day. It's not just the technicalities of playing this piece... esp with little fingers... it's how he pours his soul into the music. He's a delight to watch and listen to...

I am just amazed how such a young kid can remember the music and he looks around when he plays, just unbelieveable.
@malcolmdale Жыл бұрын
My aunt who taught me always used to say "look at the music - the keys don't move." So with practice you should know where the keys are and you really don't need to look at them. It's just like touch-typing . Typists don't have to look at their keyboard.

Dear Mr. Yonah Ho, hello! I congratulate you on your spectacular progress at the piano. I am a 75 year old grandfather and you are like my great grandson. I have been following you on youtube for a long time in all your amazing piano performances. I had already seen 2 or 3 children aged 8 to 9 play certain easy pieces on the piano; but I had never seen a child of 5 years old play the very difficult piece like "the fancy promptu of Chopin" on the piano. You did well to show in this video how you worked gradually to achieve your amazing performance. I encourage you to continue, and you will soon become an excellent pianist at the age of 12 or 18 at the latest. My wish is that you be recognized as a pianist from the age of 12 because you deserve it; so I would have the joy of listening to your interpretations before I die. I thank your parents for the support they give you in your studies, and I encourage you to continue your studies with the same seriousness.

Interesting how these many Asian kids play so impressively at a young age but then we don't really see them grow up into being profesional pianist super stars
@waitingforapril2 жыл бұрын
And some (a select few--just like for non-Asians) do (Lang Lang, Yuja Wang, Jo Seung-Jin, Lim Dong Hyuk, and others I'm forgettting...). It is only natural; for classical music, it is best to start early, so we have many early starters. And, at this age, kids do learn really fast--especially the kids who have talent, or are generally smart and have a good ear, they will seem prodigious. Time will tell, though, who sticks with it, who truly loves it enough to have the passion and put in the time year after year to get better. It's just thst there is more widespread interest in Wesrern classical music (espcially in Korea and China now, I think) while it is pretty niche elsewhere, so there are more Asian kids lesrning, so you see more Asian kid "prodigies"--but many--almost all--of the professional classical pianists, regardless of race or origin, you see today were child prodigies at some point too (the reverse is not true). if you look in classical orchestras, conservatories, music schools, you will see many Asian (and non-Asian) musicians who had early instruction.
