Book goes in depth, online tutorial just teach you how to do it but never understand why

When I want learn something completely new for me, I start with courses online (I'm using both Pluralsight and Lynda) to have a 10.000 feet overview, then I go deeper with books. And this last step is the more difficult, because you have to make the right (and lucky) choose of the better book on that argument.

I definitely prefer learning from books than learning from video tutorials. Online courses can be kept up-to-date, though. Since the state of web development is always changing, that's a pretty strong advantage.

Currently, the state of web development is ridiculously fast, like almost comical, online tutorials are life savers for me.

Well it depends... For example, most of the things in school, watching an online video is much better.May be, its because the education system itself is outdated and youtube has a lot of channels like crash course which makes it easy to remember.. But when it comes to learning something for your life.I think most of the time, its for learning skills to do your business, then books are better because, all these "Make money online" stuff over the youtube, well its not really structured enough. The online courses are really great for that but then again, the books give an in depth information. For example, books usually give examples of people who became rich. So I think if you wanna be an expert, read a book and do an online course too (some of them even provide a certificate).Learning from KZfaq can be only for school/college studies.

Nice video, man 👌 📝 3:43 Conclusion: videos more like for an overview and books more like for in-depth, but both are still good options

I use videos for a review of something I already learned, and books for learning new material due to the attention issues I have. I have the read a paragraph 3-5 times before I've finally paid enough attention to actually read it, but then I know I paid attention to it since I can't tell when I space off. ADHD, love it.

Hey Ricky I am really enjoying your channel. Keep it up. As to books I also have that same book you have.Pro Mern Stack, I even got it right as it came out. I noticed right away that some of it was not very useful. But all in all the book is ok. I know which things in the book are still of use and which I can basically ignore now. I prefer to stick with more the online stuff as books just cannot keep up with the sometimes daily changes in software. So I find as you do that I have a list of channels and sites that I trust and other ones that I know are crap. I am pretty picky about the teaching style of any site so basically after 5 or 10 minutes reading or watching it I will know if its a good place to keep with or not.

For me learning from online tutorials first then from books helps me build a solid foundation. That's because online tutorials tend to be a bit less detailed but good at giving the intuition/visualisation of the stuff. Going into the book right after may help you understand the nuts and bolts of the institution, since you know the purpose of each nut and bolt is to ultimately achieve that "intuition" or "visualization"

Brilliant ! I AGREE WITH YOU 100% .. But in the last period I noticed that reading is overrated . In nowadays we have books' summaries , So instead of reading 100% of a book in 10H for example ... We can get 80% of the most important infos in just 10min ! And this is 80/20 Rule

Totally agree with you on this topic. If you need a fast way of getting into new things to learn try online. If you want to get your hands dirty than get a book.

Overall i prefer books because they tend to be more detailed and deep. Although i like video tutorials when i want to learn something and i don't know how to start.

Start with online courses or videos to get a 360 degree view of the stuff. Head to the right books and practice, practice, practice.... And when they say "Get your hands dirty", they don't mean you can do copy paste. Even if it is as simple as a variable declaration, TYPE it. It might sound dumb and waste of time but this IS what gets into your muscle memory for the long term. And you see the stuff flowing from you subconsciously.
