Laskey Artist Gail Williams, Professor Emerita at Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, discusses all the important aspects of horn playing and how to develop your fundamental skills on the instrument.
Gail Williams is an internationally recognized hornist and brass pedagogue. She has presented concerts, master classes, recitals and lectures throughout North America, as well as in Europe and Asia. Ms. Williams joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in December 1978, and was appointed associate principal horn in 1984, a position she held until her retirement from the orchestra in 1998. She has been a member of the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra and is currently principal horn of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra. She performs on a gold-plated Laskey 85GW French Horn Mouthpiece.

I love how I can hear Dale Clevenger in her speaking mannerisms. He is alive and well through her teaching and her students.

My horn teacher back when I studied in the late 80's was very etude minded. The usual weekly regime was 2 etudes, the on going work on a solo piece and then excerpts. Most of the time we never made it to the excerpts. Till my junior year anyway. ha ha Then he piled them on along with everything else.
