Learning OP-Z: Other Gear Part 1 (MIDI Settings)

Important note: I forgot to mention that each track's MIDI In channel is its track number--so the kick (track 1) receives on channel 1 and the chords (track 8) receives MIDI on channel 8.
Part of an in-depth series on using the Teenage Engineering OP-Z with other synthesizers and MIDI controllers. This video went longer than expected so I only cover MIDI settings. Future videos will cover using the OP-Z to control external synthesizers and using multiple MIDI connections at once.

I'm losing my mind because even when I set midi clock out to "off," the external gear's sequencer always starts playing when I press play on my OP-Z. This video helped me immensely, getting me to basic connectivity. Do you have any insight on this clock issue?

Weirdly enough it seems like settings 4 and 5 ONLY control the clock I/O, while settings 2 and 3 control the transport I/O (and notes/CC). Unfortunately I don't think there's a way to disable transport without also disabling all MIDI out--how annoying.

That is so annoying, but thank you for making it make sense. I don't understand how anyone is using the OP-Z to control external gear with this issue! I guess I'm going to try another sequencer. Thank you for your videos and sharing your knowledge!@@windowbed

can you control step components via midi controller or DAW?

There doesn't seem to be a way to do that, no. Though if you sequence the performance FX track with another controller or a DAW you could get some similar results (ducking, note repeat, filter sweep, and fills)

thnx, for the answer. I have issues with my OP-Z, double trig's and etc. was hoping to fully control op-z with midi controller. But indeed, that's not possible :(.@@windowbed
