I began when COVID hit the USA...I did a drive-through pick-up 🎻 to finally learn the instrument I’ve always loved! People said it was too hard to learn violin, and that I should just learn guitar instead...but...
It has now been over a year, and I’m still loving it! Here’s the first 6-months of progress 😄

Does it really have to be _that_ outdrawn? People always say that "to master an instrument, you have to read every book, play for 50 years, travel the whole world, etc" and while I'm fine with doing that when I can (I can't travel the world now, or even get a violin) it just sounds like people on KZfaq overcomplicating it, like always. You didn't say that it took you that long, just that you've played it that long, but you brought up time for a reason, so the principle is the same. The piano might be simpler, but I still learned the basics in a day, sheet music the next, and I practiced on an A6 paper (10.5×14; black strings are 10 cms, white are 14: you can draw) when I wasn't in reach of one for the chords. I'm looking into whether there's any variation in older models. So, the difficulty was _extremely_ overhyped, and it didn't take me years, or decades. Years feel a lot shorter these days, but it's the same. It was mostly mental for me. The violin might be more about muscle memory, the right amount of pressure, or whatever. But it can't just be _so outdrawn!_ And like any instrument, how it looks like doesn't match the difficulty. There are 88-keyed pianos, but they follow the same 7 natural notes. The beginning might start with A and B, but it's like one of those failed math patterns: it starts with A, and B, but it's the same afterwards. I am still at the basics on the piano, and it might take me a while to get any further. I am fine with waiting. What I'm not fine with, is treating it like it's impossible, or as if I need 7 years to get anywhere. It's only that much harder!

@@WomenCallYouMoid playing the violin is unusual in that it does take a long time to learn it. It takes even longer to master it. I have personally played it for seven years, and I would not say that I have mastered it. However, you are right in that you can make progress quickly, and it does not need to be highly drawn out.

I love that you have shown your progress since the Pandemic,And for anyone who is a beginner Make sure when your holding the Instrument make sure your wrist is straight, Because you can see in day 1 and week 1 her Wrist was not straight it was bent but after some weeks you'll be able to get use to it.(ITS REALLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR WRIST STRAIGHT OR YOU WONT BE ABLE TO PLAY VIBRATO)When playing pizzicato (plucking) make sure your thumb is in the corner of the finger board and while you plucking make sure you fingers are over the finger board and not between the bridge and fingerboard because it can leave some plus and other stuff that can make it hard to pull that bow while playing. When I was a beginner I used to have tapes on the finger board so I know where to put my fingers and what notes are those, after some time when you're getting better at it you will have like a muscle memory and you may take the tapes off late in the future.(WARNING: DO NOT USE STRONG TAPE ON YOUR VIOLIN IT WILL MOST LIKELY RUIN IT TRY FINDING SOME TAPES THAT ARE SOFT AND EASY TO PEEL OFF)

This video actually inspired me to start playing again. It’s really frustrating because I completely lost the ability to read the notes 😅. I never should have stopped practicing hopefully I can get good again, and maybe even better

This is awesome! I like how it wasn’t just starting out with the bow cause normally (at least when i learned) you do pizz for a bit before finally getting to the bow so you can learn where the notes are on the violin and get comfortable with the awkwardness that is holding it. Muscle memory is a lifesaver lol. Congrats on your progress its really cool to see!!

I play the viola now but I’m in concert orchestra and I only just started this year because I got that class by chance and couldn’t switch. Everyone else has 4+ years of experience while I’ve only had a few months but being in that class definitely forces me to be more consistent with my practice and learn quicker witch is actually really nice

I play the cello and wish to also learn violin. I love seeing the different way the instruments work and how different people teach. This gives me a boost of confidence to try violin!

as someone who’s been playing for 9 years- most of my life, you were playing very well in tune even from the first week, and it took me forever when i started learning to start getting my fourth finger in tune, great job! i’m sure you practice a lot to progress that fast, you are so talented!

as a violinist of about 6 years, this is a very good progress video! i suggest that you put some tape or stickers under your strings because that will help with the intonation! great work❤

I played the violin in elementary (about 3 years) and switched to the Alto Sax so I could eventually be in marching band. A couple weeks ago I figured out I made it into both a really great high school and into their band/marching band! I'm can't wait ❤

I love seeing how many musicians on here are genuinely surprised by your progress. It's really nice to see positive reactions to someone first starting out on something new instead of more experienced people trying to criticize and critique everything. You're doing great!
