Whoop look at me keeping up and being consistent with something!
Really hoping this one starts a discussion or two, definitely a part of myself that I’m still figuring out BIG time!

I’ve been working as a substitute teacher because I haven’t been able to find a “real” job and to be a substitute teacher all you have to do is sign up and if you’re background check is clean, you’re in. Being inside of a school is really stressful. Lights, constantly being perceived by others, the noise, the bullying of other students right in front of you?! I CANNOT do regular classrooms. It’s overstimulating and sends me into meltdown within two hours. In contrast, the special needs classrooms are under stimulating so I find myself stimming. Our school system has now created special classrooms for autistic children, and those are the perfect balance of stimulation for me. The lights are a little bit more dim. Some kids are nonverbal. Some kids are aggressive and some kids are very clingy and some don’t want to be touched. Unless we get to go to a sensory playroom! ❤

I also like to just lay dawn for 5 to 10 minutes at least 3 times during the day. I started to do that because I help my mom do the dishes and her sink is very low, so after a while I get a terrible back pain. But it also helped me to regulate my mood.

I’ve never thought to do that, but actually think I may find it super useful 🤔 I’ll have to give it a go!

@@DanaAndersen I read it on a Yoga Guide 15 years ago. But it's quite hard to pull it off working 9 to 5.

Ohhh and clothing. I always wondered why I have been a hoodie collector my whole life… i love a hoodie.. I am so comforted to come home and get out of my shitty office clothing and get into my joggers and hoodie and get cozy in my comfy bed with my fav blanket and pillow and just escape there watching whatever show or topic I am currently obsessed with. IT IS EVERYTHING to me.

Hi Dana 😊 It was your video/ link on the flare website about flare audio ear plugs that helped me to make up my mind to buy them, and I wouldn't be without them now! I'm now a fan of your content and a subscriber 😊 Please keep making your autism content, it's so helpful and validating 🥰

It is pleasantly rare to find a person 💖 trusted enough for a cat to let it be held on its back (feet up). Myself, optical things like looking at something say, on a table nearby, going cross-eyed just a little to make the thing go double is so entertaining ! Then look down at your nose --- there's two see-thru shadows of them right ? It's great to say, be writing in a book, then go just a little cross-eyed enough to make a shadow of the knucles slightly then move the hand to look thru the shadow at something else is so satisfying ! And nobody has to know I'm stimming. t h a n k 💚 y o u !

Oh my gosh! My eyes lose focus and seems to jiggle when I look at things sometimes too. It IS weird feeling but not in a disconcerting way.

I just bumped into your videos lately and I love them! I think your lovely!!! I know you mentioned that there is a lot of catering ti children with autism not so much for adults which may be true but I want to thank you big time. I have an 8 yr son with autism and a 6 yr old daughter who was just recently been diagnosed with autism as well and this video and the previous were huge eye-opener as for me I knew my daughter had sensory input issues but your description we’re just so on point and really help me realize how many of her stims were depressed by via teachers or friends or even sometimes me a parent not realizing that that’s something that she’s doing to alleviate some of her and Anxiety I am definitely more familiar with steaming now and with the diagnoses realizing her struggle but your video really just detailed so much for me I am really grateful that you put this out there. She is currently at a summer camp and you can probably only imagine what she’s going through daily with all the overstimulation and sensory outputs that are at camp which in face value seems very enjoyable to an active six-year-old girl who loves to jump and run and sing and play but at the end of the day can be very depleted..

Try working in a supermarket for 10. Years. The fight against constant overstimulation from sensory overload in your daily life as an adult is so real for us Autistics currently stuck in jobs that are horrible for us, but have no where better to go just yet. 😵🥵 not to mention all the unpleasant customer interaction!

I managed 3 days in a supermarket, major props to you for sticking it out so long! I hope you’re able to find something that suits your sensory needs asap though, none of us should be having to suffer through sensory discomfort all the time!

How did you not commit homicide in that time?! I get overloaded just going in for a handful of things many times and that's without the pressure of making sure you're doing a good job.

Whenever a loud car passes me, (if I'm alone) I will just shout "SHUT THE FUCK UP" and be so angry for like 30 seconds and then I'm fine 😂

Hi, I get overstimulated in cafes and in a loud street, and also I can't stand a slimy soap, and also it's often hard to take a shower, because of how the humid skin feels. Thanks for the topic brought up

loved this video, relatable as always, but it's hilarious to me that there's a horrible whining grinding noise in the background for the very end of the video hahaha

I loathe bass sound and loud music others are playing, like bass in a vehicle driving by or neighbors blaring bass filled music… makes me want to get violent… it sends me into pure rage to the point I have gotten into verbal altercations with people over it. It’s like bugs crawling in my skin. I feel the same with loud obnoxious noises that are repetitive… like someone going in and out of the door and slamming the door within a few minutes makes me ANGRY. Sirens, alarms, ambulance, anything like that enrages me. Loud talking and obnoxiousness bullshit sends me into fight or flight, I have actually left my house during a get together my partner hosted and stayed in a hotel for the night because the loud music and talking and door opening and closing and just chaos around me made me insane. I couldn’t leave fast enough.

I hate my house smelling like food… like when we cook in the kitchen, I will change clothes multiple times because I don’t like smelling like the food and I hate if the scent of food lingers to my bedroom too. I will put towels under the door to avoid it. I usually ask my partner to use the outdoor grill to cook meats. I have super sensitive sense of smell and the smell of like motor oil or gasoline makes me cringe… like don’t get near me with that smell. A BIG one for me is soft touch. It took me forever to explain to my boyfriend that he can’t just reach over and slowly stroke me because the discomfort I feel.. makes me squirm. I cant fkn stand it! Now a strong touch or pat or even deep tissue rub, I am all For! It’s the creepy soft touch that makes me insane! I could go on and on.

Oh and I hate phone calls. I can’t stand my phone ringing or alert sounds. My phone stays on silent and do not disturb mode and I check my messages when I am in the mood to actually face the task. 🤷‍♀️
