Thanks your videos really helped me to teach my FS2 class. I am using this shoulder, elbow and wrist method to segment CVC words such by putting other hand on shoulder saying the sound e.g /m/ and then elbow /a/ and then wrist /n/ so children have an idea there are 3 sounds in cat, mat etc.

You are a great Teacher. I have been struggling to teach my children to read and I have not been doing a great job. I am trained in secondary education and I have been trying to teach myself to teach my Kinder and Grade One. I have tried it all. I just had a revelation when you said there are some words that can be thought phonetically and some by sight! That has been the missing key, because some sources say uses phonics only and not sight words but it has been difficult when the exception words come into play and I think that I have been making it worse for them than better. I was on the verge of quitting until now. Thank you.

Appreciate video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would love your thoughts. Have you considered - Millawdon Future Ticket Trick (do a google search)? It is a good one off product for teaching children to read minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my cooworker at very last got cool success with it.

You are a natural teacher and I should know ( I am a teacher too but NOT as good as you). Thank you so much for your entertaining and informative videos; I just love them! As an aside, you may not know but you have turned me into a phonics convert. I used to think that sight learning was the only way to teach children to read but I now understand that phonics is a great way to teach reading and I shall employ it with my grandchildren. Keep up the good work.

Loved this video. My daughter is in reception and is good at segmenting the letters and we are working on blending the letters. Do you have any book suggestions that have fun stories but also contain lots of CVC words. We have Fat Cat on a Mat but would love suggestions for more.

GemMummy Hi there! So glad you enjoyed the video 😊 I love the Phonics Readers series so I would definitely recommend getting some more of those! I am also a big fan of the Oxford Reading Tree Phonics series as they have some great activities in them which makes them a bit more fun to read when you don't know many words yet! I hope your daughter continue to enjoy reading and thank you for watching!

I'm sure each child is different and will learn at different ages; but I know children who've just turned two and they can identify most letters of the alphabet . I would concentrate on teaching the sounds of the letters - see Jolly Phonics for help . Don't be concerned with the letter names , and use the lower case alphabet. Children learn incredibly quickly

Learning to read happens at different stages for all children. In the UK we mainly start at age 4 in Reception. However, some start sounding out words a little earlier. It's important to start pre-readinf before children go to school, including looking at books and pictures. I have a video about pre reading tips on the channel in my reading playlist 🙂
