Natural World: My Life As A Turkey
My Life as a Turkey is the heart-warming tale of Joe Hutto, a man who raised sixteen wild turkeys from eggs to fully fledged birds. This film follows the growing birds, as Joe did, through the oak groves and cypress swamps of Florida. Seen through the young bird's eyes and told through Joe's heartfelt diary entries, this film meets the individual characters, gains a remarkable insight into the complexities of turkey behaviour and reveals these birds are far from stupid.

How wonderful that this man took it upon himself to learn the language of turkeys. Humans think that anyone that doesn't speak their language is stupid. How stupid is that? This man is incredible and patient- thank you for posting this video. I certainly learned so much!!

AMAZING. I have pet chickens and can tell when they are alerting each other concerning danger, treats , all kinds of things....even when they are content. There is so much we do not know about animals, the older I get the less meat I eat. I cannot tolerate thinking about the fear they must feel before being slaughtered. I am sure there will be many sarcastic and stupid comments on this video but I commend Mr. Hutto's project.

I spent decades raising various animals on a small farm. None of them are stupid. Every animal is amazingly intelligent for their own survival, not for ours. I hate it when people call certain animals stupid. Those have been the most ignorant statements I've ever heard. I've seen animals do some pretty amazing things, and they all have their own language.

It is not at all unusual for different species to have intelligent languages. It isn't surprising for any when you know that prairie dogs not only have a vocabulary but describe people who walk by their locations. The studies were done long before it was picked up by National Geographic. There are numerous kinds of intelligence on our amazing planet.

Beautiful, this birds have a soul and they are, for the most par, intelligent. I have two chickens, I speak their language and I better not say the things they utter when I do not feed them on time. Good for this guy and for BBC Earth.

@StormChaserMaci.
You will find many birds have their own calls & vocalizations for certain things. If you really listen like this guy does. I used to watch birds all the time. Because of that, I know what each call means for different species. That is very valuable information for me as a storm chaser because believe it or not, birds also know when storms are coming & are quite vocal about it before they do. They can feel the air pressure changing unlike us. I use birds as an indicator of the weather. Probably the only storm chaser who does! Love birds. 😊
