I’ve been tying this knot for 20 years, and it outperforms the standar clinch knot every single time. Try it out and let me know what you think.

I just discovered your channel last night Jude. I am using this knot in future for my casts. I also enjoyed your flytying tutorials. Thank you from your neighbor to the west in AZ

Truth! Jude showed me this knot last May and I have been using it ever since. Works well. Keep the videos coming.

Always used forceps to tie the Pitzen knot, but your way is very straightforward and easy. Thanks 😊

Thanks a good idea for when winter comes and your fingers don’t work as well! 🥶

When you tie your dropper flies on a tag, you may find you are tying on with very little tippet. I find it VERY helpful to focus on turning BOTH hands when wrapping down toward the eye. As you perfectly demonstrated !!! :) Great stuff again Jude !

Wow and I thought i knew everything about fly fishing, kidding of course. Easier than a clinch knot, smaller and stronger. Thank you and look forward to more of your videos.

My favorite part about Fly Fishing is there’s always something new to learn. You should see how much I learn from my clients! You’re very welcome!

The figures shown in the breaking strain chart have convinced me. This could make the difference between landing a fish or breaking off. 👍

@@duranjude1 I tried this knot last week for the first time on some nice browns in New Zealand. NO BREAK-OFFS! (Only fish lost were from me striking too soon.)

Thanks for post. Looking forward to trying. As I get older, my eyes aren't what they used to be and fingers not as nimble and this knot looks like it's easier than improved clinch especially with 5x. Tight lines

I'm sitting in my kids room waiting for them to fall asleep with a laptop, 7x tippet, some tiny swivels, and a headlamp. I stopped using all tippet sizes smaller than about 4x because the damn clinch breaks so easily. I've lost some really good fish because of it. I am practicing this knot over and over again because it looks like I can tie on small nymph on just by swinging it around the loop and main line, or by using my hemostats. Cold hands make tying knots really really rough! That said is this knot going to be stronger or as strong as a triple surgeons knot? I do not see the point in having 2lb breaking line, with a knot that can hold up to 1.7lbs, on a triple surgeons that can only hold 1.3 or 1.5 lbs. The 16-20 will hold up just fine, the triple surgeons knot is still going to lose my rig and fish =(

also this isnt going to be easy to use to tie a fly onto a 2 inch tag =(

Liked your presentation. But From a guy who has been casting flies for 60 years, I have a saying when it comes to hooks and knots. How sharp is sharp and how strong is strong. Your knot is pretty cool, but I have used both Clinch and Davey knots all my life and they work just fine. It becomes a matter of whatever you are comfortable in tying. I'm not saying your knot isnt good. Just saying some of us old farts are set in our ways and have caught thousands of fish using the old fashioned "weak" knots. Nice presentation.

How does the Double Davy knot compare to the 16/20 as far as strength goes?
@RonMTube7 ай бұрын
It's in the chart he put up.
@duranjude17 ай бұрын
That’s a great question. The Double Davy is the other knot I recommend. It’s as strong, or maybe stronger than the Pitzen aka 16/20 Knot
@colleenm66747 ай бұрын
Thank you Jude. I’ve been using the Double Davy knot for about 5 years now and I really like the strength of it and it is so great with small flies. You do a great job with your videos.

Double Pitzen is a lot stronger then the Pitzen.
