macmost.com/e-... While most Macs have trackpads, most users never bother to learn how to use some of the gestures available. You can see which ones you have available in System Preferences, along with videos that show you how to perform the gestures. Each has a keyboard shortcut you can use instead if you prefer.

Hi Gary - First, thanks for the tutorial videos. I've been a Mac user for 10+ years and I've learned a few new tricks thanks to your videos. Regarding the Notification Center Trackpad settings, I think you are misinterpreting the meaning of 'right edge'. The setting is not referring to the right edge of the screen - it is referring to the right edge of the trackpad. When enabled, the notification center will slide in from the right when you swipe left from the right edge of the trackpad with 2 fingers. It might be a little easier if you practice with the built-in trackpad on a MacBook. You can set your 2 fingers on the wrist-rest just to the right of the trackpad and swipe left onto the trackpad; the notification center will slide into view. Swipe right from anywhere on the trackpad to slide it back out of view. This gesture is not dependent on mouse pointer position or if you have multiple displays. The pointer can be located anywhere on any display. When you perform the gesture, the notification center will slide in on whichever display the mouse pointer is currently shown.

You're right. And also right that it is easier on a MacBook because you can swipe from the flat surface on to the trackpad. On a Magic Trackpad, there is nothing beyond the edges. But it still works, just a little more awkwardly. I prefer to use the button at the top right myself.

Hi, thank you so much. I started to organize my desktop iMac using my mouse several hrs per day and I started to have pain on my thumb & point finger. Do you think Track pad is better to buy?

I use a Trackpad. I think it is better. But it really is subjective. Some people prefer a mouse.

How do you right click????
@macmost

On a trackpad? Should be a two-finger click. But check in System Settings, Trackpad to see if you have changed that. (It is called "secondary click.")

Hello Gary! :) An old video here, but very relevant, stupid question: Does magic trackpad 2 have a physical secondary click? :) Or do you need to go with two finger method?

Look in System Preferences, Trackpad. You can set it to a corner if you don't want to use two fingers. For me, I often Control+click instead.

how to use trackpad to play, stop next or previous on apple music

There are no special gestures. You just use the pointer to click on the buttons in the Music app, mini player, or Control Center.

Gary, why doesn’t the iPad Smart Keyboard have F keys?
@macmost
@macmost 5 жыл бұрын
You'd have to ask Apple that. But even with there were F-keys, apps would need to support them. By themselves, they wouldn't do anything.

No gesture for that. Keyboard shortcut is Command+W.

Nice video however I hate this thing so much. I wish I could get my money back. It won't do the most basic things like click and drag and drop. I read below how you do it holding down your thumb but when I hold my thumb on it, it opens or previews the dam thing or gives me the RENAME box. I also can't right click to get the drop down to "move to trash" or "delete" or whatever. I would never encourage anyone to buy this. It is horrible. But thanks for the info on System Preference etc.

I guess I'm saying that any super supposedly simple piece of technology should not require one to "practice" with it. Who need to practice with a mouse?....no one....: - )
@Mudge07
@Mudge07 2 жыл бұрын
You may not think you’ve practised with a mouse, but you have. You just take it for granted that the mouse you use will go to where you expect on screen and perform to the clicks, presses or combinations you’ve already learned. If you were to be presented with a new or updated machine with defaults different from your current one , then you’d go through a learning curve to achieve your own optimal,performance. Same goes for any new device, like a trackpad. I’ve used laptop trackpads and iPad screen controls but never touched the Magic Trackpad. So, I’d probably have a base knowledge and some mechanical movement familiarity, and require slightly less time than if I was a true novice with nil experience. Finally, as indicated in this presentation, apps and OS continual development mean that “many an old dog can learn new tricks” whether they want to, or not.
