Thank you for making this video. My 9 year old daughter and 14 year old son are learning to wing. Hope you offer lessons on Maui this summer.

Mahalo for the great videos! Can you talk a little about wing size? Lots of options but what would you recommend to start with in 10-20 knot winds?
@alancadizwingfoilinginstru29263 жыл бұрын
There are other factors to consider first your weight, second the size of your foil and last but not least how much experience you have. If you weigh 170 pounds and a 2000 cm front wing in 20 knot I would think a 4 Meter wing. As you gain more skill you should be able to get up in less wind and with smaller front foil and well as a smaller wing.
@vhb43024 жыл бұрын
I noticed you use the Duotone wing. Currently I kite surf ( no foiling yet) and windsurfed for 10 years before my kiting. I’m considering buying a new wing and wonder if the boom bar would be better then the handles
@alancadizwingfoilinginstru29264 жыл бұрын
I personally like the boom because like you I have a history of windsurfing and kite surfing. The boom feels more natural and easier to use. I don't have to "look" for the handles during transitions and I can place my harness line exactly. The webbing handles do have merit, I just prefer the boom.

What a great video. Thank you.. should my first wing be 4.5m?
@djmax012 жыл бұрын
Maybe a 5m, doesn't matter that much but I wouldn't go smaller than a 4.5m

I think the term switch the hand shoulb be replaced for another one, since u don´t in fact switch your hand.

So can I just use my My SUP with the foil kinda like a dagger in light wins to get familiar with the wing sail?
@alancadizwingfoilinginstru29263 жыл бұрын
Sup Paddle board or SUP foil board? You can use a foil board and follow this same progression but if you can find a large 200 plus liter board with a dagger board it will be easier to focus on the wing. Hope this answers your question.
@jamesc61373 жыл бұрын
Alan Cadiz It’s an 8 foot hypernut SUP that has a foil track on it. I foil it behind a boat. It floats me standing dead still. I want to use it to get used to the hand wing but not get it up on foil until comfortable with hand wing. Seems like with the foil on underneath it serves as a dagger board. That’s my only question.

great vid, thank you. what is the secret of getting the board to point across the wind and up wind please?
@alancadizwingfoilinginstru29264 жыл бұрын
It is there in the video. The wind must be sheeted out or luffing when pushing the wind aft.

Hey! Just for my understandig: is the wing intended to use only with foils? Is it possible to go surfing with a classic board and get into planning?
@alancadizwingfoilinginstru29264 жыл бұрын
Hand held wings have been around for decades, people have used them with surf boards but the drag from the surf board makes it impractical. The new light weight wings matched with a modern foil is sensational!

@@alancadizwingfoilinginstru2926 thanks for the quick reply. :-) I was hoping for a combination of an inflatable board with a wing for minimum storage and transportation space.... I am not looking for highest performance but windsurfing without planning wouldnt feel right. ;-) Would love to try foiling one day though.

@@robertoaguilar5896 Me personally I prefer winging. I did kite for many years and loved it. Then I injured my back (surfing) and gave up kite surfing. I can't afford another compression injury. Winging is new so not enough data points to say about safety. Price, Wings and kites are about the same but a board and foil will be more than a simple kiteboard. Plus demand for wings and foil boards is out striping supply right now.

You missed the most essential point.... Push the wing to back of the board to go upwind and push it forward to go down wind.... why do most clips miss this obvious point...
