@@ThornfieldBooks it's pretty much an extended self insert about an educated but low class guy teaching an upper class woman to enjoy sex with a side of heavy ableism

Happy New Year !!! I finished "The Maltese Falcon"..... Where to start..... I LOVED it. I think the 2 things I loved most were that I felt like I was in a 20's detective movie, the smoky rooms, Spade's way of talking to all the women..... yes icky, but so much fun... It was one of my favorite writing styles, where you don't know who knows' what until it comes out. I dare say I'd put it in my top reads of 2022. I'm so glad I read it, I don't think I'd ever have picked it up on my own if not for your reviews about it. So, Thank You !!!!!

Yay yay yay!! This makes me so happy. If you loved the way the book felt like a movie, you might also really like the film adaptation of it with Humphrey Bogart! He’s a great Sam spade in my opinion.

I must say it takes courage to be honest and you expressed it well in this reading wrap-up. A long time ago you recommended The Hunchback of Notre Dame and I just finished it. Thank you, it was a great story, very moving, causing me empathy toward its main characters, and surprised by it beautiful, sad conclusion. Happy 2023, Valerie.

I don't like any of your least favourite books other than a violent dnf of People We Meet on Vacation 10 minutes in last year and I do have a great love for Anna Karenina ehich I am not sure if you dislike or just don't like the self insert (which I was going to say, but I think I love female autofiction and am revolted by male self inserts). Loved this video and how you talked about things so much!!

10 minutes in would be a new record for me lol. I really like Anna Karenina despite a few issues I have with it, mainly because I think Tolstoy is such a good writer. Thank you for watching!

OH I disliked The Big Sleep as well. I had the urge to read it only because my sister got me an adorable green Penguin Library mug with the book title 😅Like you I didn't enjoy Philip Marlowe's character and felt the story drag because of him. It also didn't help that I was in a Hercule Poirot kick at the time, so I was more so craving a humorous, light-hearted detective rather than the brooding Philip Marlowe...

Hercule Poirot and Marlowe are definitely two very very different detectives lol! I can completely see how it would make the experience drag on even more if you were on a Poirot kick.

I thought People You Meet on Vacation was juvenile. It’s ridiculous. The “end” scene was stupid and the “reveal” was predictable.

There are people in my life who think I'm a Hemingway fan because I love classics. Um no. No no no. Nope. Ugh. Surprisingly, despite my Jude rant, that wasn't my least favourite book of the year. 😂 That title belongs to D.H. Lawrence's The Man Who Died. I had to read it for uni, and aside from the blatant and intentional disrespect to Christianity, the whole thing was basically a worshipful love letter to his p*nis. Like most of his work, honestly. I cannot stand Lawrence. I full-body shuddered through the entire thing and threw it in the garbage as soon as my course was over.

I get the same assumption all the time, and then when I say I don't really like him I get judgmental glares lol. Strangely, this makes me want to read your least favorite book because this assessment made me laugh out loud. 😂 It sounds so absurd I feel like I need to see the absurdity for myself.
