It’s #texasstyletuesday again already! It’s Leather Britches day, which makes me very excited because it gives me an opportunity to wax all fangirl about my man Texas Shorty. Many of you know that Shorty and Dick Barrett are my guys. I mean, they’re my historical guys. Once the 70s came around and women were allowed to play the fiddle (shout out to the Ladies Division at Weiser, amirite??) I started getting some heroines to go with my heroes and I promise I will talk about them soon. But in the meantime, Shorty should be on your short list. (Heh, pretty proud of that one.) He has always played such a clean, beautiful Leather Britches with not too much flash. Well, that actually describes everything he ever played but whatever. I played the 4th finger jump ending in the B part and dammit it’s a little sharp and Shorty never played that ending so I guess it’s my own fault. So if you play that ending, take more care than I did. But you should always play that 3rd position droning thing. With the bowing. Texas style is often about 3 note slur patterns. You should just go ahead and embrace it now. Full version on Facebook and my KZfaq page. #fiddle #fiddlestar #fiddlelesson #ladiesdivision #leatherbritches #texasshorty
