May 5th & 6th 2018, I was in Birmingham for Makers Central. The show was great and I met a lot of awesome makers. Few weeks before the show, I was contacted by Jim from @Wavecycles on Instragram. He told me about his idea of gathering a bunch of makers for a collaboration which would be making a bike. Every makers involved would have to make a part of the bike and during the weekend of the show, we would put all the parts together to give birth to the "Spirit of Collaboration". I thought this was a brilliant idea and was immediately on board. As I had never made one before and wanted to give it a try, I decided to make a leather round tool box to hang behind the saddle.
But life happens and some of the makers initially involved couldn't make it to the show. So Jim, Ellen from Craft with Ellen and I brought what we made and we finished building the bike, late on a saturday night, in a parking lot near the hotel. Some other friends came with us to film and take picture and just be there, and it was awesome. Al took had a run with the bike, took it to the hotel lobby and Laura Kampf also had a small run with it inside the hotel.
The bike is 8.5feet long (something like 2.65m) and was for Jim and the makers involved an exercise in building a unique bike using scrapped and recycled parts, easily available materials and little to no specialised tools, in hope to inspire others to give it a try.
FOr the round saddle bag, I used 2.6mm thick vegetable tanned leather, engraved it with a Trotec laser at my local makerspace, dyed it with brown leather dye, and put two coats of leather varnish on it. All the hardware is brass and I really like the contrast of brown leather and brass hardware. I hope you like it as well.
I was really to be part of the build and can't thank Jim enough for asking me to be a part of it. The idea of uniting makers from the world, with different skills and knowledge around a common build was a brilliant idea and I'm ready to do it again anytime.

What beautiful sentiment, makers coming together to create. I can't think of another community that I would rather be involved in. No egos just people passionate about sharing their love of creating. Now that's the makers spirit.
