Hi Black Fox. They are different and it comes down to preference for sure. This is a push knife and is great for thick leather and with practice you can get some nice curves cut. Has a traditional feeling to it too :) A trapezoidal blade (Stanley knife, box cutter) is a must have too. Great pull knife. Very much depends on the leather and how comfortable and competent the user is. My favourite for most leather cutting is the clicker knife kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMx0n5iemdm7g6s.html

@@HandmadeByAlex Thanks for the reply. I've tried the clicker style knives by X-Acto (craft knive) and I found it to be my least favorite actually. I'm wondering if perhaps I just need to buy a better quality? I can't honestly decide between upgrading my razor (tandy style box cutter) to a head knife, or shears, or what. I suppose i'd almost just have to get them all and see what feels best? I do see a lot of European crafters using the clicker style.

@@BlackFoxLeather I've tried a few different cutting tools. The head knife is great but does require a greater understanding to use. If you are use to cutting with a pulling action it can be quite different to swap. If you can get hold of a clicker knife (like the one shown in the other video) I'd highly recommend to do so. The Tandy "Industrial Knife" does a good job too, and might be more easily available to you. It needs more preventative maintenance -doesnt hold its edge as well- but is still a good tool. A suitable cutting surface is a must too :)
