I just found your channel and I’m subscribing. Your voice has a calming kind of Paul Harrell thing going on and you seem quite knowledgeable and your opinions appear to be based on fact and experience. Best of luck.

I’ve been carrying for quite some time now and the best holster in my opinion is a owb kydex pancake style holster. It is comfortable to carry owb and the pancake style conceals best to my body. Leather holsters are okay, but kydex is so much better when it comes to securing a firearm. Also if someone is new to carrying they need a proper gun belt so the gun isn’t sagging down.

Thanks for putting this one out Matt! I find that holster issues and holster shopping is more stressful than gun shopping. Remember that I said I was debating between the G-19 and the Sig p320....well the G won...Picked it up yesterday and spent an hour shopping for a holster and never did find one that I wanted to try on....MY biggest issue with holster shopping is that you can't "try one on"...and once you purchase one it's yours forever...in other words you can't return one that you buy and find is not suitable...but you can't find out that it's not suitable until you buy it and try it.....a catch 22 that irks me no end. At this point I'm not sure that the G19 will be a concealed carry but I'm guessing that it will be at times when I feel I can carry outside the waistband . Not a big fan of "open carry" so most of my holsters are IWB. I'll probably spend this week looking and shopping and trying to find that "just right" holster that I'll be comfortable with. Thanks for giving me some more info to help me search !!

Oh...and I was able to spot where you were carrying...but (a) I knew you're a lefty, and (b), figured the most common location for a strong side carry....if I had not known those two things I would not have noticed anything to give me a hint.

Good video. I love leather holsters, especially for my hammer guns since I can ride the hammer (thus I am slightly less dependent on the leather holding its shape). As far as the discomfort on the hip bone, I glue a piece of sheepskin where the holster creates the pressure point. This does two things. One, it relieves much of the pressure (sometimes all of it), and two, it brings the but of the gun closer to the body.

Good, informative video. Agree with you on being predjudis toward leather. I have a Safariland iwb that's leather with the reinforced mouth to keep it open. It's for my Sig P220, but also works great for my G17. That made me like it even more. Thanks Matt!👍👍

I'm a lefty, with a rare gun, .380 Browning 4.25", and want IWB. Luckly I have a holster maker within 10 miles that made me a custom hybrid holster for my gun.

Nothing wrong with having multiple holsters. My main carry pistol is a Kahr CM9, which I carry mostly in a kydex iwb holster. I will literally forget that I have it on. As of now I don't have a hybrid, but will attain one at some point.

I picked up a black TS7 Safariland ALS(level ll) holster, left hand for my gen 5 series Glock 26. I like the design & secure fit. The big - with OWB type TS7 holsters is the rear belt loop slot is a tight fit 😖 for thicker EDC/gun type carry belts. Safariland should redesign the OWB belt loops. They offer a UBL attachment for range, duty style belts but CCW is a -.

My major problem with holsters is finding ones that adequately accommodate lase/light attachments.

I agree. ✔. Many white lights, 1913 rail attachments constantly change & few major holster makers design rigs for all types. Mainly Streamlight, Surefire. 😏. I like the newer well made Olight designs. Only a handful of kydex shops use Olight.

Very good video. I don't like kydex becuz of the noise and rubbing off of a gun's finish. I virtually always carry a 7 shot S&W 22mag pocket revolver. My primary pistol is carried appendix. I carry a dbl stack STI 2011 4" barrel @ abt 42oz. I know it's there; but I can sit comfortably. I sometimes replace that w/ a Ruger sr22, 22lr, w/ a 4.5" barrel. So lite it feels like it's not there. I am confident with either choice. The accuracy, speed, and penetration are there w/ either gun. I carry the sr22 in a leather Galco w/ a metal reinforced opening. I bought a leather lined kydex holster for the STI. By Garrett, well made, excellent customer service.😎😇

Better hope the leather don’t start folding then u have a chance of your gun going off because of the leather bending and starting to get wore out. Kydex is the go to doesn’t lose its form

Good explanation of the various types of holsters. I currently have 3 holsters for my 1 CC gun and I can't decide which one I like best. They all have their up and downs. I wish I could just pick ONE!! Do you have any thoughts about or experience with the Urban Carry "Leatherlock" holsters? They look like they could be the best of both worlds but there are mixed reviews. Plus, I'm not sure I really want to buy yet ANOTHER holster. Thanks.

In 2019 there are tons of videos & forum posts on the many types of holsters, carry styles, colors, attachments etc. I'd suggest to any newer gun owners or CCW license holders NOT to buy the trigger guard kydex concealment rigs. 👎🏻. I bought a trigger guard system for my Glock 21 gen 4 .45acp for "off body carry", use in my 5.11 PuSH bag while at my local gym(24hr place early AM hours, urban area). I saw over time, the tight-friction fit would create marks/grooves in the Glock polymer, 🤨. Not good. I'd add that Kydex comes in 2 common style thickness types. I believe most gunners/cops prefer the .93 style for long term, serious carry. Kydex, like nylon or synthetic holsters can retain crud, lint, sand, grit. The + is many holsters, mag holders are easy to clean. ✔. A - with many polymer or kydex gear is the small screws can loosen or pop out as you wear it. 😧. Some holster brands suggest loc-tite. As Matt noted leather can be a great CCW choice but I suggest a respected, well made holster; Kramer, Galco, Mitch Rosen, Kirkland Gun Leather, Milt Sparks, Don Hume. Some say 🐎 leather rigs are worth the $. Take care of your belts, gear. It can last years with proper care.

There is absolutely no reason for you to worry about that Kydex holster tension on the 229. No way you can move that body enough. To worry about the gun falling out. One last thing congratulations on your pregnancy
