A man with Alzheimer's cycles 350 miles to show it's still possible to live well with dementia. Please visit www.beingpatient.com for more patient stories like Peter's.
Our mission is to give people impacted by dementia a better resource and connection to experts at the forefront of research. Our founder Deborah Kan funded Being Patient solely with her own savings to understand if people would value such a resource. Our audience has grown so rapidly, we have exciting plans for the future to enhance our coverage even further but we need your help. Please consider making a contribution to help fund Being Patient's editorial costs. We employ a team of journalists to give you the best possible information on dementia and brain health without bias.

Peter is an amazing man and an inspiration to us all. He completed his 350 mile ride 😊 Much love to him, Theresa and Kate, you must have helped so many people by telling your story, not to mention the money you've raised for the early onset alzheimers charity. keep shining like the star you truly are xxx

I have been following Peter's weekly videos since my husband's diagnosis of Alzheimer's a year ago. The insight I have gotten from Peter's talks have been indispensable in understanding and helping my husband deal with the symptoms of this horrible disease. Thank you, Peter.

I think the key word here is "early" and I am so glad that this man could still enjoy his favorite hobby. It becomes very sad when that is no longer possible as with my husband and fishing. When you lose the ability to do what you love the decline goes much faster. My husband just passed at age 82 in February. I miss him terribly but I pray that he is in a good place and whole once again.

I understand this man's situation and aloneness. When my husband was diagnosed in 2017 with early cognitive decline and there was nothing for us in our very rural (and poor) county in SW Michigan/USA. When I called around for information of what was available I quickly discovered that because there was a spouse in the home (me) we were on our own. As long as the spouse is capable of driving to doctors appointments, giving medication, shopping/picking up prescriptions, cooking, cleaning, showering and so on. IF the person was housebound and unable to care of themselves there would be help in the form of visiting nurses, Meals on Wheels, and eventually Hospice. I am not saying that the homebound person does not need help, I am sure they do and I do not in any begrudge this help for them but why are we ( the coupled) being left alone to navigate this disease totally on our own? I (the spouse) have four Autoimmune conditions myself and this makes taking care of myself hard enough plus having to take care of my spouse as well, just plain hard, stressful and very, very difficult.

My mum had Alzheimer's. She passed away at 87. I think she had it for a great many years but we weren't aware. I don't know if I'll have it myself, but you've assured me that it doesn't have to be quite so scary or devastating. The moment is all any of us really has. I love what you said about we only die once yet we live every day. God bless.

Exquisite film....Peter Berry is very inspiring...such a beautiful spirit...this should help many people's perspective on having Alzheimers & other Dementias, such as LewyBody Dementia, and what the possibilities are for one to be able to do & achieve that brings real joy & a sense of satisfaction to them personally, rather than focusing on the limitations. A dear friend of mine has MS and she too is so inspiring by focusing on adapting to doing things in a slightly different way but still embracing what the heart experiences and feels, as Peter so beautifully expressed!! As one of the Co-Founders of the LewyBody Dementia Resource Center (www.lbdny.org) here in New York, we also explore & suggest ways to manage symptoms of LBD, being especially mindful of quality & enjoyment of life everyday for patients and their Care Partners....Bravo, Peter Berry & the Be Patient Organization!!! ✌✨💖
