In this edition of Talking insomnia we meet Peggy who was told she had MS after an intense struggle with sleep.
Sensing that this was not her story, she found a different path for herself.

Amazing story. And very similar to my history. For me: CFS/ ME, thyroid disorders, worsening menopause, scary neurological deficits, allergies, and possible MS diagnoses, are being improved by the same process that is healing my insomnia. Sympathetic nervous system overstimulation (from chronic anxiety), affected my entire system. Thank you for this interview.

How did you heal the overstimulated sympathetic ?

What is helping me is: •seeing it's my reaction rather than my response, to scary sensations/symptoms/ and thoughts, that makes those things feel more intense and last longer. • I no longer feel I have to rush my recovery/healing. This alone, helps my nervous system feel less pressure to "get better now!" •I checked out stress & anxiety reduction techniques on KZfaq and online, and I do a few each day. They are benefiting both my mind and bodily health problems.

For some one who is not monitoring ‘how long it takes to sleep” think it takes them minutes for those who are it takes them hours because they are thinking about sleep during those “sleep hours” insomnia is simply unable to give your self to sleep on a time schedule where as you can actually sleep

Thanks for another great upload. I know that NATTO is the way I make a full recovery. I'm still struggling after 2 years on-and-off maintenance insomnia without medication, then the past 12mo managed using sleeping medication, which overall has worsened my sleep further. I hoped to ask three critical questions which will really help me. 1. A previous video (I cannot find) mentioned insomnia concurrent with IBS, bloating, intestinal gas, gastrointestinal symptoms. Could you please confirm what video this was, or elaborate how to address these two things, assuming that both are largely anxiety driven? 2. If insomnia is always rooted in fear, my preference is to eliminate sleeping medication on day one then learn to sleep again without these medications. Can you please comment whether you have observed that most people made a faster recovery when stopping sleeping medication, or whether more people have greater success doing NATTO while continuing to take medication, then tapering? 3. My greatest struggle is that sleeplessness/unrefreshing sleep greatly adversely impacts my daytime mood and makes it very hard to think positively during the day. If I have one or more very difficult days where sleep deprivation has greatly increased my stress, anxiety and depression (I never feel these after I sleep well), will these emotions "reset" my progress, or will my insomnia continue to improve even if I have these days consistently? The reason for my question is that if daytime stress, anxiety and depression will "reset" my progress, or slow my progress, or increase hyperarousal, then is it not a sensible strategy to treat these symptoms during the day using medication and/or supplements, and this will enable my insomnia to improve? Thanks Daniel.

Hi Benjamin, I’m so glad you see the value of our way. And I’d say look at Talking insomnia 145 for much on GI issues that can help. Then just post the other questions in a brief way and I’ll get to them. Rooting for you

Good day, I am interested in the topic of sleep apnea! I had insomnia and mostly I am leaving this struggle but also I am diagnose with a medium sleep apnea disorder! I have during the night about 23 Stopped breathing, mainly when I'm lying on my back! Now I don't know what to do. I don't want to wear a mask or anything else and leave this problem behind me. I wonder if it can also happen that you can have both insonmia and sleep apnea. any idea Daniel how to deal with this new journey?

Hi. Thought I'd share a teeny bit of my experience with sleep apnea. I'm not in any way saying this is your type of apnea: it turns out mine was related to my deeply set anxiety. My anxiety expresses as many various physical/medical/psych issues through the decades. It's very difficult and annoying but I'm seeing just how complex and interwoven anxiety (fear) is , in my life. Apnea stopped as soon as I developed awareness of another set and cycle of health issues. Wishing you rest and health!

Hi Filip, Peggy may answer here but my understanding speaking with her was that it was the hyperarousal, it’s quite common
