I'm a huge LeBron fan or I used to be anyway he's changed a lot since the early Cavaliers days. Difference is Jordan played every game, went hard every minute he was on the floor, never flopped, never shied away from the big moment as a matter of fact dominated the big moment, played defense and offense and never asked for load management minutes. He hit the big shots when they counted the most, he made his teammates better, he didn't depend on his teammates to carry him, he played thru an Era when other teams attacked him, and he was humble.

Elbows, clotheslining players, fist fights, trying to sprain/break ankles when players were landing, and on it goes. MJ played in the toughest NBA era. LeBron plays in an era where players won't even guard cuz they're scared of getting injured. Not to mention, MJ played in the greatest NBA era period. The skill level was through the roof and the level of play MJ displayed was the standard. Today, the NBA is basically a glorified 3 point shooting contest.

He also saw Perkins going up to challenge the shot, which is why Jordan switched hands in mid-air. But Perkins pulls back at the last minute. Doesn't go all the way up. That's why a lot of people don't understand why Jordan switched it. If you grew up watching Jordan play, you know that he often anticipated the movement of the defender and reacted to it in real time. You will notice that he pumps his layup at 4:51, because he suspected that Laimbeer might come from behind to challenge the layup. It's a similar type of situation. Jordan did this all the time. It was his offensive instinct to adjust to his defender's movements. It's one of the attributes that made him almost impossible to guard.

Folks don't seem to realize that this level of play was all game - every game. These type of plays were routine for Jordan in his prime. It wasn't just a few per game either. It was literally every time he touched the damn ball, magic would happen. People also don't seem to understand or appreciate the fact that Jordan was playing like this in a league full of generational talent & HoF level players. Just look at the names he's terrorizing here - Barkley, Bird, Thomas, Wilkens, Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaq, Ewing, Rodman, Laimbeer, Johnson, Salley, Drexler, Mutombo, Mourning, Miller & on & on & on. That should be a huge consideration when looking at his career.

That “unnecessary” move you said he made on the layup against the Lakers in Game 2 of the 1991 Finals actually wasn’t unnecessary at all. If you look to his right as he took flight, there’s a defender who goes up as if he’s going to try to contest and then decides against it (because it’s Jordan 😏). Jordan being an instinctual player (especially when in the air), his peripherals engaged and he switched hands so that the defender couldn’t do anything about it. Everything Jordan did was instinctual. The man was inhuman.

The "unnecessary" layup was because Jordan saw Perkins right beneath the hoop. Jordan and Perkins were college teammates and Jordan knew how good a shot blocker Perkins is. Jordan mentioned this in an interview.

Someone answer me this honestly. Noone has ever given a straight answer to this question. One of the biggest knocks LBJ fans have when discussing MJ is his 3pt shot. Career I believe he shot just around 30% but only attempted 2-3 3ot shots a game. This was his greatest weakness supposedly and yet he sat right at league average for that Era. In today's Era guys are shooting 10+ a game. LBJ shoots 8 a game give or take and is also a 30% and lower career shooter. From 3. Now here's the question. How can LBJ even compare to MJ when LBJ FG% is around 30% also. LBJ shooting from 0-3 ft meaning layups, dunks and put backs is a 76%+ shooter. But outside 3 ft. Meaning 4ft- 3pt line is a measly 20-24٪ shooter. How in anyone's right mind can someone be that bad of a shooter and be considered a GOAT by any stretch of imagination. Someone please make ot make sense. LeBron simple cannot shoot the basketball efficiently unless he's arms length from rim.
@libfit9068
@libfit9068 2 жыл бұрын
MJ's 3pt % was 33% which isn't bad at all, he didn't make 3pt shooting a major aspect of his game only shooting (shooting less than two 3's per game). But he isn't a liability from 3 by any means.
@stevemeisberger9765

@@libfit9068 that was kinda my point. He's was average for his Era and that is considered/ argued/ talked about as his biggest weakness in his game. Where it really wasn't a weakness cause he still went off without 3s. Now if 33% career 3 point shooting for MJ is a weakness. What is sub30% career outside of 3 ft for LBJ?

Also, during that period 3pt shooting was considered a low percentage shot and was not the highlight of the game as it is today. You would never see a center shooting 3pt shots. Lambier was probably one of the few centers that shot deep consistently. Also, don't forget clutch shooting comparison which is another vast difference!

I disagree with your Era logic a bit. If Jordan was in this Era he would have access to better teamates too, a more spaced floor, be able to gather step, no hand checking, have the best trainers and have longevity like Kobe & Lebron. No other guard in this league would be able to guard Jordan, and it would create unfortunate miss matches. They would have to switch off him onto a big, which he can just fly by, and there is no other Center other than Giannis or Embiid who would really make him shoot more jumpers. But even then, he played against Shaq who is arguably the most dominant center of the past few decades. He's already a more athletic and better playmaker than Kawhi and no one is holding Kawhi really like that either. They would say the league is too soft because you can't touch anyone and people would say Jordan benefited from the modern nba rules, that would be the excuse, and they would discredit an entire generation just like they do today.

well said. People don't realize this. When MJ scored his 69 point game against the Cavs, he made a total of two 3-pointers in that game. And he only shot 4, so he was 50%. He scored 63 points on midrange jumpers, dunks and free throws... lots of free throws. Had he made just 4 more three pointers, because there is no way on God's green earth that anyone in today's game is scoring 69 without making more than 2 3's, had he made just 4 more, he would have matched Kobe's 81. He was a pretty decent three point shooter, he just take very many of them. Nobody in the 80's and 90's really did.

In today's era with no hand checks and no double teams he would average 50. That's not an exaggeration. So much harder to score when the defender can hold you off with their hands.

Can you seriously imagine this hardwood cyborg in this era? With the advanced medicine, nutrition, workout regimens, etc. And with the lack of stout perimeter defenders and rim protectors. It wouldn't be fair. They'd have to raise the rim by a foot. Jordan would literally eat these cadavers like Dahmer at supper after a hunger strike.

Jordan averaged 1.7 attempts per game for his career - hardly enough to measure a player's ability from that distance. He did average 37.6% (1989-90) and 35.2% (1992-93), respectively, in seasons where he attempted almost twice his career avg. from the current distance.

Dude, you’re right it wasn’t necessary to go up for the dock and lay it up instead but that’s what made basketball so much fun and then after him you got guys like Tracy, McGrady, and Vince, Carter and whole bunch of other guys to start flying out of the building, it brought basketball so much farther than it could’ve ever been in my opinion, they made it fun to watch

That’s what you don’t understand. Jordan was the competition. When you’re the alpha on Top everyone else is beneath you and doesn’t seem as great in comparison. A 40yr old Jordan played against the new era and showed how unstoppable he was then. Nothing would have changed 10, 20, 30, or 40 yrs later. Cuz not Bron not anyone can stop or do what he can do. He still holds the highest average 37.1ppg being MVP while in an era where they invented the Jordan rules. The same as the hack a Shaq rule. Why? Cuz they were basically unstoppable. Wouldn’t matter what era they play in.

Great reaction young man. Watch the layup when he switched hands more closely. Sam Perkins, a teammate from UNC, put his hand up and definitely looked like he was going to try and jump so MJ switched hands. Then Sam decided he didn’t want to be on a poster. He won 5 league MVP, 6 finals MVP, one defensive player of the year, 9x first team all defense, 3rd all time in steals, still has the highest vertical in league history, ran a 4.3 forty, most clutch player in history and loved to rip the beating heart out of an opponents chest. Stick with it. You’ll do great on YT. God bless

The NBA is super soft nowadays. Breath hard on someone and it’s a flagrant. Jordan was dunking and dominating in the big men era. Sorry to break this to you kid. Lebronica wouldn’t be able to be as effective in the big men era with old school rules. After a hard foul. He would need to be carried off the court.
