m sure sir but some sources (text books) say that the two fluids mix into each other in direct contact heat exchanger..and this somehow contradicts what i could learn from this lecture..would be delighted if clarified.

Your storage and direct contact "heat exchangers" are NOT heat exchangers according to your definition of heat exchangers, where the fluids must not mix. Direct contact is explicitly mixing the fluids, and the storage type has huge cross-contamination.

Contact does not mean mix. If both fluids at the independent outlet are the same (one does not contain matter of the other one) than at the inlet, then we can say that they did not mix despite they were in contact.
