So the overall effect of the GH on liver, general body cell and tissues and adipocytes can be summarized thus In the liver it would stimulates release of insulin like growth factors which would bring about growth in bones, increase in cell metabolism. And did you say metabolism would lead to amino acid uptake? Breakdown of lipid? And spike in blood sugar level? The latter confuses me. How is metabolism happening without energy? And what is the source of energy other than glucose? And how is the igf 1 supposed to be insulin like if it is not increasing glucose uptake?

Hi Laxmi, this set of lectures was for an undergraduate physiology class. I also have a site for my Anatomy students "Anatomy & Physiology Pro" that has lectures (mostly live recordings of in-class lectures) and anatomy tutorials. Good luck! kzfaq.info/love/JFfHao9_eFxw5ij0tkQ_Vw

When you talk about inhibiting and stimulating would that be the same as permissiveness, synergism, and antagonism? My professor wants us to know those three terms and what hormones do which ones. Thank you

The section 4 under the Thyroid Hormone Synthesis slide, iodine attached to tyrosine in colloid or follicular cells?
@PhysiologyforStudents
@PhysiologyforStudents 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew. The attachment of iodide occurs in the colloid. Fig 16.9 of Marieb (A&P) or Fig 19-2 of Sherwood (Physiology) both explain this nicely. Iodide is activated (oxidized) to iodine in the follicular cells, then enters the colloid. It is then attached to tyrosine in the colloid. TPO is the necessary enzyme for activation of iodide and attachment to tyrosine.

also at 16:04 sec mark, you said increase in metabolism will cause a decrease in glucose uptake. Shouldn't the cells use more glucose to fuel the more metabolic activities? or is that because glucose has to be reserved for the brain so the body cells opt for fatty acids to fuel their activities??
