On April 7, 2019, the Marine Band presented a Young People’s Concert titled, “The Incredible Big Band.” The program featured a wide variety of modern pop, timeless jazz classics and music from the action-packed animated film “The Incredibles.” Ernesto Lecuona's “Malagueña,” arranged by Bill Holman.

This was great. Heard the full orchestra live one time, so, so good. Couple of minor flubs, but then, I'm a Trumpet player so that's what my ear is tuned to. Trumpets had a couple of spits with the beginning high notes but otherwise outstanding. Can expect nothing less from this group. Although I've been playing for over 50 years and have had a degree in music, my playing ability is grade school level compared with them, but I am able to hear what should be there. Many years ago, there was a group of former college marching band members that toured with a show called "Blast". Brass and percussion with dancers (color guard). They performed this piece and it was jaw dropping. If ever anybody gets a chance to watch the video of that group, do it. It'll be worth it.

Basically the same version that Blast played back in 2000. A great version and one of my favorites.

Gentlemen, Playing Stan Kenton requires 100% commitment and 120% percent effort. Kenton invented the Wall of Sound and this ain't it. Laid back Marines phoning it in? What the Hell? The conductor should have stopped after two bars and made the trumpet section get it right.

Sorry, not a great start with those split notes and so many hits didn’t happen precisely. Trumpets particularly didn’t impress me much. Reference UNT With Respect To Stan. Love y’all but I need more energy and fatter accents... Daht instead of Dit. Sounds tacky.

Technically proficient but all look and play like they’ve a stick up their arse. Really boring performance of a great chart, sounds like it’s been ripped straight from Sibelius.
