Here in my country the same happened to a very famous band from the 90's. The presenter made a joke saying something like "this is their first and the last time in this program" since the band made humour music (one great band anyway). And it was really the last time.

Sorry to pop the balloon on that one, but he isn't credited for any six stringin' on Pictures at 11. Robbie Blunt was the guitarist on that record. What he's doing here shows a bit of feel, and the ear as was said, but nothing at professional performance level.
@JohnBindon
@JohnBindon 6 жыл бұрын
Plant's been playing guitar proficiently since the 1960s. My suspicions is that he brought small bits or pieces of something he wrote to Led Zeppelin sessions and Jimmy Page piggybacked off it. Plant and Page are credited with almost every LZ songs over their careers. I've brought riffs to my guitarist over the years and he's turned a small riff into a full song. I'm sure it's been the same with Page and Plant.
@vertigo4567
@vertigo4567 6 жыл бұрын
I believe that is why I consider Page to be my favorite guitarist of all time. Even when he was clearly drunk or strung out, you could always tell that the music writing was impeccable. The early days when they were all relatively sober you could always hear missed notes by all 4 members(even on the studio recorded albums). THAT is what gave them charisma. THAT is why they will always be the best.

lol it's so funny that in all the pre-Zeppelin/Yarbirds interviews, Page always says he wants to be literally any other profession other than guitarist, even when asked if he wanted to make his own album in the future. I'm sure that down inside back then he really did want to have a job as a guitarist, but he probably thought he would look like a fool if he said he did want to be one, because he knew how hard it is to make a steady living as a musician, since he was always just playing "one night stands", and probably just said those other jobs to get his mind off wanting to actually be a full-time musician.

This is awesome! John Bonham's short answers completely blows Billy Connolly away. Jimmy Page's high intellect could be distinguished in his interview. And it was rather ironic in that the interviewer would have had no idea whatsoever the he was interviewing what Jimmy would ultimately become, one of the greatest axemen and song writers in rock history. 8:29 Robert Plant is about as cool here as he can ever be in tuning a stunning sounding acoustic guitar. I rate Plant also as having a high intellect. The Page & Plant song writing combination is also one of the greatest duos in rock music history - up there alongside in my opinion the greatest John Lennon & Paul McCartney from The Beatles, then there's also Mick Jagger & Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, John Lord & Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple...

@Bioniking -That clip ( and comment) from JPJ was in regards to his being left out of the Page and Plant collaborations and tours of 1995 and 1998. At the time ,the " official" reason behind that was Page and Plant were not seeking a " Led Zeppelin reunion", but ultimately DID revisit the Zeppelin catalog quite extensively on both projects/tours. By 2007 " O2 Arena " concert it seems ,they all made good any bad feelings.

Too bad there aren't more interviews with him like this. It's amazing when you hear the stories of drunken violence , and Jekyll and Hyde personality changes, yet here he seems like a genuinely nice guy.

The reason for his _Jekyll and Hyde_ bits were because he hated touring and being away from his family. A very down to earth, nice guy.

That’s a fascinating interview of Page from his early session years. His accent is surprisingly posh even for then and he probably toned it down later. He’d only been playing 4 years and tbh probably wasn’t very good by the standards of 19 year olds today. We know he was no reader or jazzer and played mainly rhythm on sessions at first then later on they got him in for fills and solos with a ‘young’ feel (though he still didn’t read). He seems to have been hired to bring in a bit of youthful coolness where previously it would have been all older guys turning their noses up at rock’n’roll. A young face to reassure the artists. Incidentally he mentions playing with Duffy Power whose regular guitarist was one John McLaughlin and they played regularly on the same sessions for a while. It was a small world back then.

Reminds me of the reference in Spinal Tap, where David and Nigel recall they started out in a skiffle group, an obvious reference to Page. First time I've ever seen evidence of that being the reference.
