Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

To be honest, while it's great that they try to keep the classic rock style alive and relevant, they try too hard to imitate Zeppelin in some ways, particularly the singer. Not to say they aren't talented in terms of ability, they definitely are, but only if they actually stuck more to being themselves and not a tribute like band of Led Zeppelin, they would be more appealing. Other than that, in terms of creativity, just couldn't get into their stuff either. But I do like their ability to perform, particularly the guitarist. But that is it, and no, nobody will ever be like these musical geniuses.

@@arceptormost of the blues music was handed down from generation to generation. Much of the blues music is of a unknown origin, with some exceptions like Robert Johnson. Then blues musicians started to put out albums and attach their names to the songs. Reguardless Led Zeppelin lifted quite a few songs, Dazed and Confused (by jake holmes), Babe I'm going to leave you, Whole Lotta Love & many others. The first two Led Zeppelin albums are mostly blues covers. People like Willie Dixon had sued Zeppelin, and won. So today if you buy their music you find appropriate credit for the song writers. However it's very controversial about who actually wrote most of these songs in the first place.

They did pretty well for having a twelve year career. While at the peak of their popularity in '73, I consider the '72 tour to be peak Zeppelin. Listen to "How The West Was Won" for proof. No band in the known universe could touch them at that time.

You'd want to pick the right night - but I mainly agree with you. You know, I've heard some sound checks where sober, the band sound fantastic. A note perfect version of Night Flight for instance, and some spot-on Elvis. Then you hear the resulting concert, the same day, after they various 'refreshements' the band took, and they sound poor. I'm convinced their bad shows were 95% due to intoxication, LOL. Here in the early days they were tremendous and the '72 tour was great - there are many other highlights.

Agreed. Zeppelin at this time had minimal light and sound basic pa and amplification, no Pyro no lasers no explosions fire etc etc and their show still blew people's minds. It's always interesting hearing Jimmy and interviews talking about what made him a great guitar player. He never comes out and directly states it. He just hints. He talks about how people would probably think what I do is boring. Basically all he's saying is he's fucking awesome at the guitar because he practiced. He practiced a lot.

I never get tired of this musical craftsmanship performed by the “Best Band “ ever! Watch Bonham crash those drums and cymbals like a controlled “madman” Excess kills any rock n roller!!! Ive been playing guitar for 20 years and I still marvel at this band, its technical proficiency, its production and is creative genius. Page's taste on guitar is still what keeps me coming back. Those licks are just so scrumptious. I cant seem to get his sound down but I dont have his equipment, of course. When I learn his licks Im still so impressed by his taste and how he takes a riff, develops it, and turns it into a complete masterpiece.

Led Zep was going to be my first major concert experience at 16 years old, in 1980. An acquaintance in high school scalped tickets and had THE connection for great seats to any show you'd want, and I had the cash on hand...$75 for a pair of floor seats in section 105 at the Spectrum in Philly (in front of the mixer, best sound in the house), which was a shitload for any concert at the time but well worth it in my eyes...but then Bonzo up and died, and that dream never came to fruition. 😭
