Those guitar sounds in the middle are from Jimmy Page using a violin bow on the guitar. My 10 year old self learned about the blues from Zeppelin.
@Ram444 жыл бұрын
I was born and raised in the Chicago area. Blues is my birthright. My uncle recorded at Chess Studios in 1967. I played in his blues band for a few years. Have to admit I don't listen to much blues anymore. I have a violin bow and I've played Dazed for over 30 years. I haven't used the bow in a long line because the rosin gets on the strings and it gets sticky.

Great reaction! Zeppelin has so many different types of music to choose from. “You Shook Me”, “Since I’ve Been a loving You”, “in My Time of Dying”, “Tea For One” Nobody’s Fault But Mine”, all great blues songs. “Black Dog”, “Rock and Roll” “Heartbreaker”great rock. “Going to California”, The Rain Song” acoustic and ballads. “Ramble On”, Hey Hey What Can I Do”, “Good Times Bad Times” a bit different. The most well known songs of theirs “Stairway to Heaven”, and “Kashmir “ probably their two best known songs. Two of my personal favorites “Achilles Last Stand” and “The Ocean”. I could go on and on. It’s easier to name songs I don’t like than name those I do like.

Or, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You --- The live version from Denmark in 69. Plant killed it and he was just a kid, really. Maybe 20 and the band itself had only been together a maybe a year? Jonesy was incredible, Bonzo, was restrained compared to his usual full on power on the drums, but it made for a perfect balance in the song. And Jimmy--- What can I say? It was just the first glimmer of what Zeppelin would become....... When I saw them a couple years later when they hit southern California, that sealed the deal for me. Best hard rock band, ever.

Grew up with all this phenomenal music and so grateful. Now I see this amazing new singer who is obviously an old soul coming back around to reconnect us with our god force through her incredible talent and ability to stir our emotions. What kid starts singing jazz from the 30's and 40's when they're 6? If you haven't already heard of her, you need to. Her talent and musical ability is otherworldly. She arranges all her own music, plays 3 instruments, speaks 3 languages, and always performs barefoot in honor of an orphan with no shoes she met on the streets. Angelina gave her shoes to the girl and the girl promised to pray for her. Angelina went on to win Norway's Got Talent at age 7 singing Billie Holiday songs and recently performed her arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody for America's Got Talent at age 13. She was praised by Queen for her performance. This link is to her performance of Screaming Jay Hawkins version of I Put A Spell On You done in the 50's. Angelina is 9 years old in this. It's been viewed 6.5 million times! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pN12n9J0tb7ec6c.html

I appreciate that you immediately recognize the blues and a nice crawl when you hear it. Not everyone does. My esteem for you grows with each reaction. May I suggest, "When The Levee Breaks", a cover of a song written about a catastrophic flood in the early 1900's, killing thousands and displacing hundreds of thousands. I wanna see how quickly you pick up on elements that almost every other reaction video misses. I have great confidence you'll hear it all very clearly. Happy listening!

I saw that look on his face when he said the blues, too. If you want some good old blues rock, you gotta start with Janis Joplin. Her live Monterey Pop "Ball and Chain" is required viewing. "Piece of My Heart," "Summertime," "Cry Baby" are other must-hears with Big Brother. And everybody should get a chance to enjoy her "Me and Bobby McGee." After that, go find the Allman Brothers' "Whipping Post."

The psychedelic part of the song represents the lovemaking. That's Jimmy Page playing the guitar with a violin bow. "Dazed And Confused" is a song about being with a girl that treats him bad, but the love makin' is so good he doesn't want to give her up.

Tip of the iceberg, my friend! In 69 the "Led Zeppelin" album was released, and things haven't been the same since! Jimmy Page is using a cello bow for those strange guitar effects, along with his wah wah peddle, fuzz, reverb etc. The bow became a part of all of the live performances and there are some nice videos of it. You have work to do! Fun watching the younger generation "discover" the music we grew up on, and still listen to faithfully to this day!

Thanks for the reaction. If you really want a journey, do their entire catalogue. Guitarist Jimmy Page used to perform this song when he was with The Yardbirds then reworked it a bit, made it a little harder and turned it into this. Zeppelin would improvise during this song in concert and turn it into a half hour odyssey.

I was a freshman in college in 1969. My roommate and I hitchhiked to Charleston WV (3 hours away) to see Led Zeppelin in concert. We thought we were badass so we took steak knives from the college cafeteria and stuck them in our boots for protection. We were picked up by a kindly truck driver who scolded us for hitching. This concert was a highlight of my young life.

Jay- Reguarding the 60s. The appropriate “initiation” is that of the first psychedelic rock song that threw EVERYONE for a loop. You must enter The Garden of Life. You will be escorted by a strange creature, actually an Iron Butterfly. The winged creature will lead you by the hand -- In a Gadda da Vida. It is a seventeen minute song intended to take you in order to experience a relaxed cruising of the mind. It is STRONGLY suggested that you have some THC on board using your preferred vehicle. This Song has one of THE BEST DRUM SOLOS EVER! It occupied an ENTIRE side of the album. It is wonderful for background music on a relaxing afternoon after all your chores are done. I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions and friendly personality. (67 yr old married dude in N California wine country. Thanks!

Most of Zep's music was an extension of the blues - in fact, they all loved old blues (mainly, but not limited to Mississippi delta style) since they were kids. That said, they get super-bluesy in tracks like 'When The Levee Breaks'(a direct blues cover - maybe do a compare/contrast video?) and 'The Lemon Song'

Well appreciated, sir. Your "roller coaster" analogy was quite accurate and fit the genre perfectly. Led Zeppelin rode the crest of the Acid Rock wave in the late 1960s. That genre was epitomized by less structured, more creative music. It was hard-hitting and catered to the stoned crowd. Others in that genre were Iron Butterfly, Jethro Tull, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and even The Beatles, to name just a few. Others may disagree, but I always thought of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida as the first big acid rock hit. Few people realize the incredible popularity of Led Zeppelin. They are the 5th largest selling musical act of all time, having sold 115 million albums over the years. Only The Beatles, Garth Brooks, Elvis Presley and The Eagles (in that order) have sold more. I sat 3rd row center for Led Zeppelin in Houston in 1971. I still can't hear because of it, but totally worth it. :)

After listening to the third reaction video from you this old man has subscribed to you. I love your reaction and the fact that you really listen to the song as a whole. If you are a drum lover do yourself and listen to their song "Moby Dick". The live version is the best so you can see the power and finesse of John Bonham. He died way too early. I used to listen to this laying in my rack with an 8-track player and headphones when I was in the Navy almost 50 years ago. It's so good seeing young people like yourself appreciating the music we old farts grew up on. You could make a KZfaq channel solely on Zep music with the enormous library they have created.

Dazed and Confused is one of the greatest psychedelic blues rock songs of all time. For me, this is the song where Page decided to show off his guitar skills to the entire world. You have to remember that this song along with the rest of their first album was recorded in September and October of 1968. There was absolutely nothing that was out at that time that sounded even remotely like this. Even the other great bands of the time, the a Beatles, the Stones, the Cream and Hendrix couldn’t put together the powerful sound that Zeppelin could. John Bonham was the best drummer of his time, John Paul Jones was one of top bassists ever, Robert Plant was one of the three greatest front men of all time, and Jimmy Page was one of the greatest guitarists that ever walk this earth. There will never be another band like Led Zeppelin. Enjoy the ride man, because every song is great, with many masterpieces along the way. Great reaction, thank you.
