When I was 12 my mother dragged me to confession after hearing me play this in my room. I had to confess to playing devil's music and Father Doyle said what music is that? I said Led Zeppelin and he said "oh... Say 3 hail Mary's, sweep the back steps to the church and don't play that music around your mother". I think he was a fan.

Couldn't agree more. I've heard this song countless times and it still gives me goosebumps. It's hard for us to do now because so much time has past, but put yourself in 1968 and try to listen with virgin ears. Then you can imagine how truly earth shattering and game changing this band was when they burst on the scene. There was no one even coming close to doing this, at the time.

It's a weird thing to say but, I am so happy that I'm old! We saw Gods onstage. So many festivals and concerts in the sixties and seventies. My first of 7 Zepp concerts was in 69. I didn't grab listening to Zeppelin even though I'm in my 40s. My parents never did and I was a metal head through the 80s and a grunge and punk guy through the 90s. I played drums so I appreciate all forms of music and after being exposed to Zeppelin I had the most healthy appreciation ever for what they did for music in their time. They were so far ahead of everyone. No one makes music like that anymore! Right on pink! All my love girl

@Rob T isn't that amazing? I literally never listened to much Zeppelin until I was 30 years old. In fact, I didn't think I really cared for their music until I gave it a chance. I was just too busy listening to newer music to give older music a chance , even though it was everywhere on the radio when I was young . I found it pretty funny that a lot of the beats I was attracted to were things very similar to that which he played. Once I gave them a close listen, I realized how much they influenced everyone and how amazing they really were. Funny how what your folks listen to growing up really influences your musical catalog and tastes. They were into a lot of Motown and groove, plus Doobie Brothers and Allman Brothers. Good shit for sure, but amazing they never listened to much Zeppelin or doors. I was such a Metalhead when I was young. Until I really gave bands like Zeppelin a good listen, I didn't realize that they were the start of it all.

Jimmy Page wanted a band that you could focus on each instrument and be entertained. Most people don't catch John Paul Jones riffing note for note with Jimmy. This is such a show piece for each member. But yeah...Greatest band pound for pound. Each musician is considered one of the greatest at what they do. They only band that ever came close was Rush. But honestly they don't have Zeppelin's catalog.
@Serai3
@Serai3 5 жыл бұрын
Not just Jonesy. Bonzo did the same. If you listen carefully, you'll hear how he follows Jimmy's guitar riffs. He grew into it; you don't hear it so much on the first or second album but after that, it was ubiquitous. Bonzo would usually follow Jimmy's riffs, and that's not something most drummers do. The fact that both Jonesy and Bonzo were doing that is what gives them their Hammer of the Gods sound, since they often fall into playing the same groove together.

Then check out Heart’s tribute to the song in the video “Heart-Stairway to Heaven (Live at Kennedy Center Honors) [Full Version].” Make sure it’s the full version because the other videos have parts of the song cut out. Heart is playing the song for the surviving members of the band. It might be the greatest live performance you ever see. Keep up the good work.

Robert Plant's voice is so powerful here, singing about love gone wrong and hellhounds on his trail; Jimmy Page's guitar sounding so haunting, that iconic riff summoning the spirits of previous relationships. Great reaction! If you do another Led Zep song you should consider Trampled Under Foot. It's got a driving funky beat I bet you'll love. And it, more than any of their other songs IMO, show cases all of their individual talents.

Love watching your reaction, to a song that encompasses Led Zep. Saw them in 69, Kinetic playground, Chicago. They headlined, the opening act was Santana [b4 woodstock] and the middle band was Lighthouse. What you heard on the recording was even more powerful live, with the band backlit with lights shining through some kind of colored liquid oil, very psychedelic.

Girrrllllll, this old man better stop watching your awesome soulful honest reviews or I'm gonna surely be in love. Seriously though, I really love how you let the music roll without stopping it 20 times to comment...we can truly see what you think and feel just by watching your beautiful expressions!! Thank you.

There's something cool about seeing people who haven't heard this stuff before. I grew up with this music 14 onwards, was classically trained on piano and had no idea about any of this stuff until then. (story for another time!) but since I discovered some of these reactions I've been kinda hooked and I believe it's because it a nostalgia trip for me. I get to go back to being on the bus and having AC/DC make me bawl on Ride On, given I'd only recently learned the story of Bon Scott and was buying Dirty Deeds, done dirt cheap, with my first ever set of music purchases. Same birthday as Bon too! Which was yesterday. 9th of July. Watching you hear this/respond to it. I get why reactions are a popular thing on KZfaq. ✌️✌️🍻😁

Great review! As wonderful as it appears to be to discover some of the amazing bands and music from previous decades, there was a special and unique experience about being there when songs like this first came out (you can review virtually any song from their first album) as LZ had strong blues roots. The only thing we knew about bands was listening to a friends record (or 8 track!) collection, and how the cover looked, there was little to no information available as to the members or behind the scenes stuff (no social media network like today). As a young teen, I remember hearing this album for the first time on a warm summer night in 1969, hanging out on main street of our small town in northwestern MN, and a guy from California, who lived in the area every summer with his cousin, would turn us on to the latest greatest groups (and other things!) on his car stereo. When we heard Zeppelin, we were in amazement at this newfound sound. If you're able, please consider reviewing anything off of Steppenwolf's first album, Grand Funk Railroad (2nd or 3rd album) or Uriah Heep "Demons and Wizards" album. Thanks PMH!

I love your reaction! The voice, the bass, the guitar and specially the drums. Unbelievable! I love when they speed up the song, your expression is priceless! Please, if and when you do Stairway to Heaven, do the original and the Heart tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center. I know how much songs make you emotional, this song gives me the chills every time. The original band members are in the audience Enjoy!!!

Led Zeppelin were an amazing band. Their genius comes from their beginnings as a Blues band. The way they brought that sound into Rock gave them their signature sound. More than that though, was their ability to grow and change with the times, cementing them as one of the greatest of all time. Loved seeing you just groove to music. Another band that you can just sit back, close your eyes and groove to is The Moody Blues. If you get the chance, check out their song Nights in White Satin.
