I cannot even imagine the pressure of walking out on that stage to close the Kennedy Center Honors show by performing arguably the best known rock song of all time in front of the people who wrote and performed it. Heart, Jason Bonham and the rest of the musicians could not possibly have done a better job. Epic.

At first Robert Plant looks confused when the wall came up to reveal the choir but then you notice they're all wearing the same hat John Bonham wore and the camera cuts to Plant and he smiles. I think he was happy to see Jason there playing and that they kept John's memory alive in those ways. Like saying "he's still here, he's in our hearts as well, we haven't forgot about him either". Awesome, awesome rendition.

He probably was "shitting bricks and sweating bullets" (who wouldn't?!) but that was an outstanding display of grace under pressure. He fucking NAILED it. @faeryquene
@faeryquene 9 жыл бұрын
joecroydon The guitarist was Shane Fontayne. I think he did a great job considering The Man himself was sitting right there watching him. Ann and Nancy Wilson did one hell of a job too. I think there was also pressure on Nancy to sing with Robert Plant right up there. This was a dream come true for Ann and Nancy, they're huge Led Zep fans. Jason did his dad proud and that choir with the bowler hats ROCKED it. Jimmy himself said so on Letterman the next night and he complimented Ann and Nancy as well.

@Duncan_Idaho_Potato
@Duncan_Idaho_Potato 9 жыл бұрын
Flexible Strategist You've totally missed the point. Did he play the solo precisely, note for note, the way Jimmy played it on the album? No. But you know what? Neither has Jimmy. Ever. He's said so himself. You see, there's something called improvisation. You should know about it if you're a fan of Jimmy Page, because it's one of the things he's known for. You hit certain notes and play certain licks at the right time, so it's recognizable, but the rest of the time you're free to play whatever is in your heart... within the chord changes, of course. That's one of the the differences between being an artist and just being a player.

To have your classic and iconic song blasted back at you all these years later by such powerful voices along with an orchestra and and choir. And to have their dear friend and drummer John Bonham's son Jason on the drums...Hand on my heart. It must have felt amazing for them to realize the influence they have had in the music industry. It certainly showed on all 3 of their faces. You can see tears in their eyes....I love Zep. Beautiful gifted guys!

I was thinking that very same thing. I posted earlier that their glances at each other was the best. So proud and yet bittersweet that John wasn't there except in spirit. I loved the 'wow' Robert gives when the curtain went up and the chorus members were all wearing "Bonzo" hats in honor of John Bonham. Everything about this tribute was tremendous and well-done.

I tear up everytime I watch these performances and the response of the band members. For people my age, Led Zeppelin defined an Era. The lyrics are in our hearts and the memories of teenage wildness come to the surface with each guitar riff. They were gods. You would hear the music blaring in the high school parking lot, on a Friday night on the road or from a house party gone wild. Rock and Roll at its finest. Bless them for their gift. The idea that the president of the US would applaud their music would make my father lose his mind! "Lower that music!" Nah...

The Gods of Rock n' Roll ... Robert moved me just by the tears in his eyes ... These gentlemen are the genesis of modern Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, and so on. If I had to pick one song for the rest of my life, I would be torned between Stairway to Heaven, and Black Sabbath (From Black Sabbath of course ^^) Long live the Gods of Rock \m/

Kravitz is the man. He and Jack Black made this the best honors ceremony, and much better than either of the Hall of Fame inductions Zeppelin received. The choir wearing Bonzo's top hat was classic. And, if there was ever any doubt, there's no way Spirit could have pulled this off! :)

I remember being in the car with my mom, mid-70s, just listening to the radio, when "Whole Lotta Love" came on. When Robert sang the "gonna give you every inch" line, my mom side-eyed me, reached over to the radio, and turned it off. We were both dyin'. Also, Lennie Kravitz's pants should've split for ^this^ song ;)
