Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

Just turned 76, and I was 21 when both of these albums were released in 1969*. I haven't listened to the entire album for a couple of decades. Jesus I'd forgotten how good they are. Every song sounds different from the other. I love how they start a song mellow and slow in some cases and half the way through it turns out to rock your socks off. That's the magic that was the Led Zeppelin. They had it all, great lyrics super tight instrumentals and way ahead of their time; perhaps ahead of All Time beamed in from another galaxy just to entertain this planet. * don't know if you know who Jackson Browne is but he was also 21 in 69 and he mentions it in a song 'Running on Empty I think.

After announcing themselves to the world on their very first official gig at Surrey University on October 15th, 1968, members of Led Zeppelin received an offer they couldn't even dream of - a year's worth of touring the US. The offer came after the Jeff Beck Group pulled out at the last minute, and an opening act was needed for a string of headliners including Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge, and Country Joe & The Fish - all more than respectable bands at the time. However, the headliners realized what they were dealing with even after the first few dates. Led Zeppelin would whip the audience into such a frenzy that nothing the other bands did could really live up to the opening experience. Eventually, Iron Butterfly & Co. simply stopped showing up on their own gigs, and Led Zeppelin became an unofficial main act for the remainder of the tour.

Vintage Zeppelin. A true masterpiece. Not a single weak song. As time went on, they got more complex and explored other musical avenues, but Zeppelin II was the band captured in its raw essence. This was the foundational stone of what would become a whole genre in itself and even spawned other sub-genres. What makes the sound of this album different than later Zep albums is that Page recorded it in its entirety on a Telecaster, whereas later he switched to a Les Paul. The first Zeppelin song I heard was on an open reel tape machine. The album hadn't been released in Argentina by early 1970. So a friend who had come from the US brought a tape with him with material from Zeppelin II, Free, Savoy Brown and other blues bands. The first song I listened to was Heartbreaker. I remember sitting there not being able to close my jaw. I was 15. Over half a century later, I still can't close it.

My favorite Zeppelin album. I remember the first time I heard this album. I was born in 1985, I was actually born on the same day that they reunited and played Live Aid in 1985. I wasn't around when they were still together. I remember when I was a young kid my dad showed me some of the song remains the same movie concert and my reaction was "Why does their singer look like a girl?" Haha. I didn't even pay attention to their music. And then when I was 17 I was driving my dad's car around and there was nothing on the radio, so I looked at the cassette tapes he had in the car and I put in Led Zeppelin 2. The first song was Whole Lotta Love. It blew my mind. That part after the freakout break in the middle of the song where the drums come thundering in and then Jimmy plays that badass guitar solo. That might be my favorite part of any rock song I've ever heard. The guitar is so sharp it's almost ear piercing. Led Zeppelin has been my favorite band since that moment. And this album holds a very special place in my heart. I've bought all of their albums and every live album I could find. This album is a perfect combination of their raw power and them really finding and perfecting their sound and style. Robert Plant's vocals are so powerful and raw, I love their earlier work when his voice was at full strength before the vocal issues that drained the power in his voice in 1973. I am now a Zeppelin historian. I just soak up information about the history of the group and how they evolved. I've got two Zeppelin tattoos. I've seen Robert Plant live in 2006 with the strange sensation. They will forever be in a class of their own and I will be listening to their music for the rest of my life.

Great album. Whole Lotta Love...i remember hearing it on the radio, that middle part freaked me out. I was too young to understand. Born in '64 but had 4 older brothers and even my country music loving brother rocked to Zep. When i was about 10 or 11 my cousin n I rode with another brother from Santa Rosa to Bakersfield, Ca...over 300 miles. We listened to Zep most of the way. Still, i knew some of their songs but not titles, n they were not my favorite....Summer of 1980. Just 2 years before graduating high school....Zep was becoming more familiar. In Thru the Out Door came out. Back in 1977 i was only 12 n unable to go to concerts yet. All my brothers saw Led Zeppelin in LA on their '77 tour. I finally have my own room n stereo after Freshman year. One Summer day i place the Song Remains the Same on my turntable. That live double album remained on the stereo for a month. And now i understand just how great they are. And finally, i will see them in concert... But i never did. Bonzo died September 25, 1980. Led Zeppelin was no more. Gone but forever remembered and forever #1 for me. And it is because there will never be 4 gods in one band like that again. On a side note the day Bonzo died remained a very sad day for me...for 13 years. Then, as if from above, my daughter was born. So now i rejoice in being a fan, and a father, and Zep will be with me forever

But Physical Graffiti is an absolutely perfect record(s) in every sense of the word. The packaging, artwork and obviously, musical content is above top-notch. If you've never heard "The Rover", then I feel sorry for you son, I got 99 problems, and Zep ain't one... But seriously, listen to that album. It will change your world forever...

Zwierzęca siła Bonzo, cichy Jones, król tempa i rytmiki, orgastyczny głos Roberta i geniusz Jimiego. Musiałbym być Byronem, żeby dobrać odpowiednie słowa. Piszę to, For touse agaut to rock( we saluter,)

It’s hard to rate LZ’s albums, cause they’re all great. But if someone said you could only have one album, it would be this one

The fortune of unintentional vocal bleed through on Whole Lotta Love and the brilliance of leaving it in. Zeppelin had a knack for opening tracks that take an album from 0-60 on the first note. Communications Breakdown, Whole Lotta Love and Rock & Roll.

My uncle saw LED ZEPPELIN at the Atlanta pop festival when they were still called: The New Yardbirds! He knew Jimmy Page but was unprepared for the vocals of Robert Plant and the rhythm section of Bonham and Jones!
