To me this was the pinnacle of the concert. This version of No Quarter still sends shivers all along my spine. The groove, the weight of this massive slow groove...and THAT FUCKING GUITAR SOLO with Bonham doing those DYNAMITE triplets and JPJ's haunting keyboard...I mean if you're not shaken by this performance, why the fuck are you still even listening to music?

When I was in high school my friends and I would head to Sacramento to the midnight movies whenever The Song Remains the Same would play at the theatre. I grew up in Connecticut and “The Song Remains The Same” was played at movie theaters from 1976 until the mid 90’s, always at night and often with other concert or stoner types of movies. My friends and I would walk to one of the theaters where it was playing, smoking weed on the way. It never failed that you would smell weed in the movie theater parking lot. Even some of the people who worked at the theater were stoned. For whatever reason the police never caught onto this.

It was solely Page that got me and thousands of others into the guitar. Since I began, I've gone over the majority of Zep songs and learned them well. There is no guitarist/composer like Page. There are greater technicians, but that doesn't matter, his feel, passion, and innovation is second to none. He is a guitarist unto himself and there are no other categories needed.

My sisters got to go to the 1976 show my parents wouldn't let me they say I was too young. So when tour dates were announced for the 1980 tour. ( In January 1979)I bought front row tickets at ticket agency $100 each for a pair of front row seats I was going to make sure I seen them. I put a deposit on the tickets and made $25 payments until they were paid off .I waited anxiously for a year counting the days. Then that tragic September day when the world heard the news of Bonzos death. I sat in my dark room with my black light on with all my Florencent glowing Zeppelin posters. Sat in my bean bag chair and did bong hits of skunk weed. Put LZ1 on my turntable and cranked it up. I cried all day. I listened to every album. I stayed in my room for maybe a week. I never got over not seeing zeppelin. then the release of the movie , the song remains the same. I won a pair of tickets, on the radio. for the premier opening night showing it was a midnight movie. I got at the movie theater at 11:30 and the line was already around the building and down the street. First I thought I would never get in there were too many people in front of us . Then I seen people angry going back to their cars yelling it's been sold out. So my brother saved our place in line and I went to the ticket booth showed them the passes I had won on the radio and they put us in the front of the line. It was like having front row seats. It was like a concert inside the movie theater everyone partying screaming applauding first 10 rows everyone was standing. I went to every showing of that movie. Then when Page and Plant did the No Quarter tour I went to see that. I remember after that concert my friends would ask how was the concert? I told them it sucked there were like maybe 10 people playing almost like a orchestra. Well I was expecting to see Led Zeppelin and I did not. So I was disappointed. But now with hindsight and after watching videos of that tour. It really was a great show. I only wish at the time I would have had a open mind knowing I'm not going to see Led Zeppelin. Then I would have got into it and enjoyed the show.

Jimmy has said he barely slept for four nights during the three-day run of these MSG concerts. Roberts voice was tired. I honestly wonder what they would say was their best concert? Perhaps the two shows in LA from 1972 on the How The West Was Won album? I don’t know but I would love to hear what they would say.
