Led Zeppelin were great friends. Such great friends, in fact, that when Bonham died, that was a big part of the reason that they couldn't continue. That and the fact that he was irreplaceable, of course. But at the end of the day, it was Jimmy Page that everyone in the band answered to. He lived and breathed Led Zeppelin, and still does to this day. It was his entire life, and it shows in the music he created. I always give high marks to anyone who, when presented with a Led Zeppelin song, is immediately drawn to Jimmy first. Congrats, Bre, because you did just that! You have a wonderful ear for music.

Can't believe I haven't heard this live performance before. This is way better than the album version (which is already very good). The performances are flawless and it's incredibly expressive and emotional... Jimmy Page is a musical genius and Robert Plant's lyrics and vocal performance are astonishing in this song.

You can always tell a true Zeppelin fan by asking the question, "Which of their albums came off better live than in studio?" and getting the response, "Houses of the Holy." Great album, but the live versions of the songs they played from it - to me - are far superior to the studio versions.

This is what like in the 1970's when singers & musicians had to know how to play the instruments live and give 110%. This was what we were used to. Zeppelin would do 3-4 hour shows regularly. It's good to see younger folks getting into the most epic songs from the 70's.

Apparently, this song was Jimmy's answer to George Harrison's comment that Zeppelin "didn't do any ballads." The first 4 bars are similar to "Something" by The Beatles as an inside joke between him and Harrison.

@@itsawonderfulknife7031 Out of the 90 studio produced songs they put out, only 10 are covers or have any referenced material, far less than most of their contemporaries. All of which has been properly credited since the 80s with back proceeds given for previous album sales. Stop believing everything you read or see on the internet. As for this song, George Harrison was a very close friend to the band (as were the rest of the Beatles), his comment wasn’t a smear. He told Bonham he wished they would do more ballads. Page dedicated this song specifically to Harrison and the first two chords are a tribute to Harrison’s “Something”.

I read a synopsis of this song once. In it, the author misunderstood a single lyric. He used to think it was "I felt the coldness of the winter/I never thought, YOU would ever go." Leading him to think the song was about lost love or divorce. Then when he found out it was " IT would ever go" that changed not just that lyric, but the entire song. Now the song is about getting through the troubled times. Amazing how just a single word can do that.

Hey, great reaction! Jimmy is an extremely talented guitarist. Most great rock guitarists are known for playing an excellent electric guitar, but with a very few exceptions will put out rock songs with guitar tracks that have a a more acoustic feel, and still sound amazing. He plays that double neck guitar, because one is a 12 string, which gives it an almost acoustic sound, and the other is the standard 6 string. And he plays both brilliantly on this song. There is very little this guy can’t do on the guitar, which is why he’s considered one of the greatest guitarists of all rock history, and my all time favorite. The rest of the band is amazing as well, each are considered in the top 5 in their instrument. They’re like an all star rock band.

This way you know what you're listening to when you hear it live and you can appreciate the differences in the live version.
