This was Maya Angelou's favorite song. She said she wished she had written it. Ms. Womack sang this at Ms. Angelou's funeral.

My daughter s a teacher. She would take alot of pictures of her students randomly each week of school. She would make a video of her classroom every end to school year. She would show the students individually many times throughout the school year during various projects or during class. Her 1st class she ever completed she chose this song as the background music. She made and gave each child a copy on the last day of school. I always remember this song and her classroom- years ago. Great song.

I agree that these words can apply to anyone, regardless of age. In the official video however, Lee Ann features her (own) two little daughters and it's as if she is singing to them directly. It's beautiful. As is Lee Ann's voice.

The writer wrote it after a bad break-up. Her mother was cursing out the ex and she decided that instead of wishing negative things on the ex, she would wish positive things for herself.

Oh Harri! I loved your reaction but I was really hoping you'd reacted to the video. It's beautiful with Lee Ann's precious daughters! Before the pandemic, my son was her sound engineer on a fairly regular basis when he wasn't working with his regular popular country artist. Lee Ann is a nice lady!😊

I chose this for my dance with my son at his wedding. We were going to lunch a few weeks beforehand and it came on the radio in the car. I was overwhelmed at how perfectly she expressed what I had in my heart at that time. I looked at him and told him this is the one. Thanks so much for your reaction and appreciation.

Like he stated it can be thought of any age /anything. That’s the beauty of music 🎶 & lyrics. I was just a young teen.., and I broke up with my boyfriend who was such a wonderful person. However he just wasn’t for me. He was heartbroken, as I was to have hurt him. I heard this song on the radio as I just got my license. Anyway I burned this on a 💿 and dropped it off to his truck the next day with a card, saying play me. Lol I know it sounds cheesy. But I wanted him to know I still cared for him & his heart. The good ole days. 😂 Cd’s! Sry I wrote so much. I had a nostalgic moment. Have a blessed weekend. ✌🏼

A song with a positive nudge to children regardless of their age to take that leap with faith for gains in life. Sometimes we fail but if we do not take the chance we will not grow or learn. Thanks, Harri. I enjoyed your reaction and comments. Stay safe yourself. I'm looking for more reactions.

My Mom years ago had me listen to this song, with tears in her eyes. It's a love letter to children. The first two versus were later inscribed on her headstone with the preamble: To My Children.

They may come close, but don't get any better. Whoever wrote this song did so well. Magnificent ideas to go through life. Excellent reaction Harri. I read it was a pop song made country by Ms Womack.

First heard this song on the radio as a little girl. Loved the tune and some of the lyrics stuck even though I had no idea what they actually meant. It sort of faded from my memory. 10 years later every word made sense and brought me to tears. 60 years from now, I will have this played at my funeral.

Such a beautiful song, even though I lean more towards old funk, heavy & metal rock music. I didn't dance. Never had the courage to. Was embarassed to. Was petrified to even sing, especially in front of my family - and husband, so I never have, in those 37+ years of being married. Wow, this is an eye opening experience!!

Sounds like Diamond Rio singing the backup vocals
@Marcus-Oh-really-yes2 жыл бұрын
It does sound like Diamond Rio. But it's actually the Sons of the Desert, who had a No. 10 country hit with "Whatever Comes First." Interestingly, two members of the band are brothers Tim and Drew Womack, but I just read on the Wikipedia page for "I Hope You Dance" that Tim and Drew are not related to Lee Ann ... and coincidentally just share her last name. :-) I also just read online that Drew Womack became the new lead singer of the country band "Lonestar" ("Amazed") last year in 2021, replacing former lead singer Richie McDonald. The music video and lyrics for "Everybody's Gotta Grow Up Sometime" by Sons of the Desert are pretty fun. :-)

For whatever reason, a lot of official videos by country artists, as well as pop artists, get blocked for reactors outside the U.S. That's why many people offer Harri an option for lyrics videos or simply studio recordings.

Nothing about the singer. Nothing about a transcendent vocal performance. Incredible.
